IM Manager

Hello,
So I have not worked with IM manager for a few years now and after looking at the Symantec docs I have one question:
Can IM manager for OCS be implemented if you are not archiving email? In looking at the documentation is just says install the app then export to EV, it is the export to EV part that I am not as familiar with, does the system create an IM vault store and archive?
Thanks!

Prelude
Initially, I wrote this about Backup Exec, because that's where I ran into this problem. I'm also a SAV & SEP veteran but don't recall seeing this heinous language in their KB articles. So maybe it's a Veritas thing. But, whatever...
...then it occurred to me that while BE may (or may not) be the only Symantec enterprise product to which the symptom applies, the cure is universal. Because it bridges a huge gap between the goals of Symantec Sales, Support, Connect, Knowledge Base, and Product Managers. So I've taken the unusual-and-hopefully-not-presumptuous step of tagging it to all available products. It is global.
That kinda makes it Ideas spam, I know. Never done it before; probably never will again. Hope you can forgive me!
Don Quixote Battles Symantec
Two KB articles I've browsed recently contain variations on this boilerplate (emphasis mine):
"There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the...

Hi all,
I'm having a problem pulling Summary Reports from IM Manager - they're all blank!
I haven't made any recent chances to the server and messages are still being logged to the SQL server (I checked the messages table and there's stuff from today there). I can pull other reports without a problem. I'm not sure what the issue is. I've searched this forum and Symantec's tech support area but came up empty. Any ideas?
IMM (build 8.4.1319) is running on Win Svr 2003. The DB is on a SQL 2005 server running Win Svr 2008. The only IM client we use is AIM. Let me know if you need anymore details.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

How can I view the conversation log ? I mean the conversation itself (what the users are talking about) not the "number of..." report.

Take a look:
http://messengersays.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!5B410F7FD930829E!82557.entry
We have updated a couple of our test client with Messenger Build: 14.0.8089.726 but now we cannot login anymore. We are running the latest version of IM Manager.
Does anyone know how we can fix this problem?
Getting error message: 8100030f
If we install 8.5 version of Windows Live Messenger it works.
This is critical since Microsoft will deactivate login for older versions of Live Messenger.
Thanks in advance!

You know what would be cool for people that just want a fast answer? Is to have a Instant Messenger like AOL or Skype on Symantec's website. I know there are Blogs and Forums to give a Question for someone to answer but some times it never comes through or takes a long because there are a lot posts. Basically Symantic would have an IT Developer happy to answer peoples Question's on a chat room.... so if Symantec can add a new tab called chat that would be totally awesome!!!!!!!!

I've downloaded the trial version of IM Manager and it requires a license file that was not included in the download. I contacted customer care, who transferred me to tech support. Tech support said that they can't help me without a customer number and licenses.
How do I obtain a license file for the trial version of IM Manager?
Thank you,
Calvin

Hi
I am wondering if Instaling the IM Manager, will effect the client machines IM directly, will I need to go to each machine to configure it, will it block the user initially...we are looking to deploy this as stealth?
thanks

Morning all, I have a simple question. I'm going to upgrade our IM Manager servers from version 8.2.1186 to the newer version which is 8.4.1328. I've downloaded the trial version of the software and got a trial license. I went through the upgrade process in a lab environment and it seemed to be pretty simple. My question is for those that have gone through this upgrade process. I'm still trying to locate our original license file so I'm wondering if I need to worry about having that file just in case. Also, we have two servers running the services and I was wondering if both can run on slightly different builds for some time. Thank you all for takingg the time to read this and respond.

We're running IMManager 8.4.1311, configured with a SQL server for Chat Logging. Our server team is looking to virtualize some of their Windows servers, including the SQL box hosting our database. My question is, does IMM have any problems communicating with SQL which has been configured on a VMWare box?

I have customers on gmail, yahoo, MSN and AOL for IM
This may be naive, but is there any ONE client for combining all of these users so I don't have four interfaces preloading every time I boot???

Is there a way in IM Manager to measure the number of IMs that a user sends per day. We have some users spending way too much time on IM (non work related), and I need to inform management of how many IMs these people are sending each day. Thanks.

hi all,
i have successfully installed IM Manager and it's logging conversations from LDAP users just fine.
however, there are certain browser-based issues i am trying to get to grips with that i hope some of you will be able to help with.
--------------------------------------------
I have installed a Windows 2003/Symantec IM Manager 8.4.1319 (2007 R2) with trial licence and installed in single server setup configuration. SQL database is SQL2005 on a remote server. All servers fully updated.
Clients are XP SP3 with IE7.
--------------------------------------------
problem 1: on the server I can log on to the admin console just fine. On PC1 I can use my domain user account to connect to the admin console and browse the configuration (haven't tested changing the configuration) via IE but the browser says "your licence is expired". On PC2 I get an HTTP500 error. I guess this isn't supposed to work anyway because to browse the admin pages you need to be...

Hi,
We have im manager 8.4 installed in our internal network, i have configured a DNS zone for yahoo on our internal DNS servers and have installed DNS on the IM server and configured it to forward dns queries to our external dns server.
when i configure my client to not use a Proxy server and my pc is allowed to talk to the internet on port 80/443 i can connect fine using yahoo 9 and see the messages in the IM reviewer.
When I use the proxy server i cannot connect, but do see my pc initiating the yahoo authentication to the IM server and i do see http traffic from the proxy server to the IM server but i cannot sign into yahoo.
Is there some special configuration for IM/yahoo when using a proxy server, the proxy we have is MS ISA server.
BTW MSN messenger works fine.
Any ideas??
Thanks

We successfully configured our IM Manager 8.4 for AIM 6.8. We're able to login to AIM 6.8 without any problem and to exchange IM messages with AIM buddies. However, when we send an emotion expression such as :-) , we will get a RED X on the IM window instead of the emotion image. Does anyone have this problem? Please check out screenshot.

Every once in a while I have users reporting that they get "<HTM" (quotes exclusive) as a message from people inside OR outside our organization. I check their local logs (internal clients are all Trillian 3.1.12.0) and see the <HTM, but when I check the log on IM Manager reviewer console, the message comes through clean. I've also checked the raw text in the database in case of a funky font or other formatting, but it's just plain text. Internal routing is selected for AIM.
I've begun to both write this off as being a Trillian issue as well as reloading clients, but the problem is so sporadic and cannot be reliably reproduced that I'm just grabbing at straws here.
The problem does not appear to happen when the client is NOT going through IM Manager.
Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.
-Andrew

I am adding an LDAP Server to our IMM/OCS environment so if we lose one, we can still sync. (redundancy)
We have 4 OCS FE Servers and one IMM admin server.
My question, when I add this server, does it accomplish the redundancy?
Also, is it necessary to do a full mirror sync with this server even though it contains the same AD information that is already there?
Sorry for the neophyte request, any help appreciated

Hi,
I'm trying to login Personal Archive page for any user, and I get the following error message:
"An error occurred and the user distinguished name could not be retrieved. Please use a domain account."
It happens when I try to access from the IM Manager server as well, using the localhost/server name/server IP.
Please help me resolving this issue.
Thanks :)
