Dear All, I have some problem about SMS v.6.0.9 with windows 2008 cluster (SCC mode). So I install SMSMSE on all nodes & configured the cluster resource completely. When I tried to failover from node1 to node2, if I failover it by manual it could do. But It couldn't work with automatic and sent error "event log 1069". Can anyone advise me to solve it. Best regard. Chai

Hi, We are in the process of rolling out SMSDOM 8 to Domino 7.0.3 servers. 12 servers have installed without any problems.  One however, does not want to start. We see the following message: '16/11/2009 19:30:25   SMSDOM: The SMSDOM extension library was not loaded into NNPAS by the extension manager. NNPAS Terminating. 16/11/2009 19:30:28   SMSDOM: Service shutdown completed. Unknown OS error' Everything is 32bit installations. (I have seen reference to 64bit applications\windows) Running Windows 2003 Server SP1. Also has SEP 11 server client installed. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thks

We deployed SMSMSE 6.0.9.286 on a Windows Server 2003 server. We're using the File Filtering Rules, so we enabled the "Multimedia File Rule" which uses the "Sample Multimedia File Names" list to filter the messages (action: quarantine multimedia file attachments). It worked fine. Later we decided to allow *.MP3 and *.WAV files in the messages, so we removed these extensions from the "Sample Multimedia File Names" list. The problem is that after we deployed the changes on the SMSMSE the MP3 and WAV files are quarantined henceforward although we wanted to allow them in the messages. I tried this on an older version (v6.0.8.262) and it worked same way. In the "Sample Multimedia File Names.xml" (match type=wild cards) file I can see the changes - the *.MP3 and *.WAV extensions are missing - but the SMSMSE does not use correctly this configuration. Any help/idea?

I am posting this just in case it is helpful to someone else.  I think my problem is fixed (I will know for sure in a couple of days). Environment:  Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-bit running Exchange 2007, both with latest SP installed.  Symantec console on Exchange server showed that both the Premium Antispam and Virus Definitions protection components were correctly licensed and had about 20 days still to run (expiry December 2009). I renewed my Symantec software licences by purchasing a new 12-month Multi-Tier Protection, and received the .SLF file from Symantec.  Copied the file to the Exchange Server, ran the Symantec Mail Security for Exchange console, went to Admin, Licensing, and installed the license file. It threw an "unknown error":  80004005   After the error, whilst the Premium Antispam component had updated (expiry December 2010), the Virus Definitions component was now showing as "Not Licenced". After...

I am somewhat confused by the figures under "Activity Summary" on the Mail Security for Exchange 6 homepage with Premium Antispam enabled. On a number of different installs,  the figures under Premium Antispam for Spam/Suspected Spam/Not Spam add up to the "Spam Scans" figure under the Scans heading, which makes sense, however, under the Violations heading, the Spam violations count is higher than the spam count under Premium Antispam, but doesn't appear to have any relationship to other figures in the statistics.  Help for this section provides no clarification on the matter. Does anyone have an explanation on why the Spam Violations figure differs from the amount of spam reported by Premium Antispam?

I am using Mail Security for Exchange, should I disable Outlook Auto-protect on my SEP clients? It appears using Mail Security for Exchange and SEP Outlook Auto-protect is redundant. Thanks!

With the 'End of Life' taken place for SMS.. I'm I still able to download and apply a license? We are not quite ready for Brightmail. Looks like our contract was issued the 3rd of November. Also when I go into file connect and enter the S/N SMS is availble.

Have a new SBS 2008 installation, with Multi-Tier Small Business Edition - licensed for Premium Anti-Spam. Client was previously using GFI Mail Essentials, which was configurable to dump junk/suspected into the users Junk Mail folder in Exchange.  They would like to use the Symantec Product and not have to pay to renew the GFI. Searched the KBase, for the life of me, I can't find a walkthough on how to configure SMSE to put junk in the folder (versus just adding SPAM to the header and creating a filter in Outlook - which is DO-ABLE, albeit somewhat time consuming on a 60 user site)... Hi there, I currently have Exchange 2003 in my organisation and I use Symantec Mail Security 4.6 for Exchange. I'm soon upgrading my Symantec ( both Mail Security and Anti-Virus ). I've got Multi-tier Protection 11.0, which comes with Endpoint Protection ( which I'll be using for Anti-Virus ) and Mail Security 6.0 for Exchange, so that's what I'm planning to upgrade to. I have searched and have found out that Mail Security 6.0 for Exchange does not give you the capability to add Email Disclaimers. I've also found the Mail Security for SMTP does have this capability, but I don't have that installed and I also got an email recently saying that Mail Security for SMTP was being end of lifed and being replaced by Brightmail Gateway. So, my question is, what Symantec Software should I use that will give me Email Disclaimers? Does Brightmail Gateway do it? If I use Brightmail Gateway, does that mean I don't need to use Mail Security...

Hi. I am running Symantec Information Foundation Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange on a virtual MS Windows 2003 Server. It works fine except when I manually run a scan on the mailboxes. We have up to 90 mailboxes up to 5 gb of size. Each time I try to scan the mailboxes looking for violations in our policy it stops after a while. Message "An Error Occured", Then the application stops responding and I need to quit using task manager. Any idea what the reason for this might be ?

Hello,   i have installed and using Mail Security for Domino 8.0.1..46, with Java Liveupdate installed. After a while i obsrerved i had almost no free disk space, which was caused by the huge ammount of disk space occupied  by the Downloads folder  in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Java LiveUpdate\Downloads...   Is it ok to delete some of the folders from there? what can i do about it?  Thank you very much for help

Mail Security for Exchange will rename attachment is deletes or quarantines to DeletedAttachment.txt or QuarantinedAttachment.txt, respectively. Mail Security 8 for Domino should also follow this formula so people can clearly see the attachment they got was stripped instead of seeing the file name intact and thinking it came through. At this time they have to check the file size and rename it to a .txt file to see the verdict in plain text.

Hi I got the task to install Information Foundation Mail_Security For MSE 6.0.9.286 on Exchange 2007. I dobble-click on "Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange.msi" in \SIFMSMSE\Install\x64 and the installation starts without any problem. Then i noticed that the Destination Folder defaults to c:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\ I have been told that \Program Files (x86)\ on a Windows Server 2008 64 bit is the location for 32-bit programs.     Question: Is Information Foundation Mail_Security For MSE 6.0.9.286 a 32 bit program ?? Or is it a 64 bit program ?? Regards Frank Larsen Nuuk, Greenland.

Hi, I am considering to use SMS for Exchange. It is said that this product already integrated with antispam feature. Is there any antispam function available (enabled) without purchasing the premium antispam license? Thanks & Regards, Hengki

Attachments with the incorrect MIME type of "application/applefile" get stuck in the queue. There is no notification to either the sender or the recipient and an error message will not be generated until the queue is manually purged (or the server is rebooted). The net result is that the sender has no idea the message was not delivered until many days, perhaps months or years, after the fact. Thunderbird and Firefox mimeTypes.rdf files can be accidentally (or maliciously) corrupted so that normal Word or PDF files are incorrectly classified as application/applefile instead application/pdf or application/msword. That part is obviously not your problem, but silently sitting on a message that will never be delivered is not an appropriate reaction to what is otherwise a minor bug.  If the message is actually delivered, the attachment will be intact, and some mail clients will have no issue whatsoever with the file.

I'm in the process of upgrading our SMSMSE from 4.5 to 6. In version 4.5 within the policy XML that gets pushed down to the exchange servers there was parameter called "DisableReportData" which if you set to True it would not send the replaced message body out to the end user. However, in version 6 I do not see that parameter defined... Is there a way to stop these messages being sent out to the end users? Thanks, ~George

Any other related issue or recommendations? Thanks in advance.. Regards Ashwin

Is there anywhere that you can manually download updates for Mail Security for Exchange? By this i mean where you could choose which version you were updating to. I know currently it is 6.0.9.286 but what if I were interested in getting the version one or two before that?  Thanks

I'm new to SIFMSMSE, just installed v.6.0.9.286 on my Exchange 2007 hub transport server (which also has the client access role) No edge transport server yet, still working on it. With some help from support, it's working effectively, with the following settings: Black and whitelist - disabled (according to the Symantec tech whitelist is not needed and if used should be limited to few dozen entries) Premium Antispam Settings - all checked, Lower Spam Treshold is at 63 Actions: Spam Messages - Accept - Prevent delivery - Assign SCL 9 Suspected Spam and SCL - has no effect until the edge transport is installed Suspected Spam - Accept - Prevent delivery - Assign SCL 6 - Deliver to alternate reipient (spambox@domain.com) A few good messages go into the spambox every day. What is the best way to deal with them? I just forward them to the original recipient and add the sender to the whitelist. The whitelist will grow large and it's a manual  process. On the Sonicwall ES400 appliance...

Hi, We are running Lotus Domino 8.5 and Symantec Mail Security 8.0.0.38. These are Windows 2003 servers with Symantec AntiVirus 10.6.1.1.6 installed for the file system.   We have been instaling Symantec Endpoint 11.0.5002.333 on our other Windows servers but not the Domino servers yet.   Can someone tell me if Endpoint is compatible with Domino and Mail Security?  If so, what components do I need to install and which not to install. Thanks in advance. Greg

Hi We are having some issues with send and receiving email in outlook that seem to be related to mail security for Exchange and would appreciate some help. We are running SBS 2003/Exchange and mail security for exchange 6.09 on the same server. Periodically Outlook seems to hang on 50% when clicking on send/receive. After some trial and error we noticed that after restarting the mail security for exchange services everything returns to normal. After a day or two of normal use the same problem will occur. There are no obvious errors in the event logs apart from live update failing now and again. As we are a charity we purchased a NFR version of mail security at a discount and are not entitled to tech support so we'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
