Prelude
Initially, I wrote this about Backup Exec, because that's where I ran into this problem. I'm also a SAV & SEP veteran but don't recall seeing this heinous language in their KB articles. So maybe it's a Veritas thing. But, whatever...
...then it occurred to me that while BE may (or may not) be the only Symantec enterprise product to which the symptom applies, the cure is universal. Because it bridges a huge gap between the goals of Symantec Sales, Support, Connect, Knowledge Base, and Product Managers. So I've taken the unusual-and-hopefully-not-presumptuous step of tagging it to all available products. It is global.
That kinda makes it Ideas spam, I know. Never done it before; probably never will again. Hope you can forgive me!
Don Quixote Battles Symantec
Two KB articles I've browsed recently contain variations on this boilerplate (emphasis mine):
"There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the...

Hello,
Yesterday I succesfully installed Symantec AntiVirus for Handhelds v5.1 (pocketPC install) on my Windows Mobile 6.1. It's the enterprise version of my company. I managed to update the library and did a full system scan. But today I received and error and I'm not be able to open the application any more. The message is (translated ouf of Dutch which is also my windows mobile language):
"File 'savce' can not be opened.
it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of the components is not found.
You may need this file to reinstall or restore if this problem persists."
Can someone advise me?
Thanks!

With the small display on my Saga, screen reastate is important to me.
Is there anyway to disable or remove the Symantec icon from the Today screen? On the rare occasion that I want to launch either Antivirus or Update, I can do so under Programs, while there is other information I want to see be able to see with a glance at my Today screen.

We bought within the last week the "Mobile Security Suite" from Symantec for using our PDAs with a virusscan solution. I already installed it like usually and saw that the programm packet blocks to change the idle time. It's 5 Minutes. I read within the documentation that this is the standard setting also wiping after 10 wrong PINs.
The documentation also says that it's possible to change or create new policies with different settings. Our situation is these PDAs won't have access to our local network only a direct connection to the internet. The security manager needs to have a SQL server installed. That sounds a bit too big for us since we think that from 250 colleagues around 10-15 will get this antivirus solution.
We only want a possibilty to manually change this setting if needed. The controll of this antivirus software should be as small as possible. Can you tell me how easily we can change or manage these policies without a direct connection to the SQL server? Maybe...

In our tests on the mobile AV, we find that the software takes 6-7 Mb of phone memory while most phones have phone memory of 30 mb or so. Isnt this a big downside of one app using sucha high chunk of phone memory. Can the AV not have a lighter foot print

I don't know if this is the right forum for this but: I am a developer for a software var in retail support. We have a customer using our software with the Mobile Security Suite 5.1, Enterprise Edition. When the Security Suite is installed, it prevents our app from running. When the Security Suite is removed, the app runs again. Our app has a valid Verisign signature. What other parameters or characteristics do I have to provie with our installation to "play nice" with the Security Suite?

We're deploying a number of WM 6.1 phones in an MDM2008 environment. We've signed and deployed a number of software packages through Deployment Manager, Mobile Security 5.1 being one of them. Our problem has been trying to connect the clients to System Center with the Symantec mobile plugin to set the update/scan/log retrieval. The phones are nodes on our intranet and activesync to our Exchange environment - can't find the phones in System Center node lookup or IP lookup. Has anyone had any success importing phones into System Center to manage them?

Hi,
I have the Symantec Mobile AV ver5.1 installed on my HTC Tytn 2 WM 6.1.
In the "TOOLS" folder, I edited the file sb.ini 's "UploadHost" field = ftp://172.17.136.31
The .cfg files are compiled and then placed into the device. I am sure the .cfg files are correctly put in because the admin message I put in the sb.ini is shown in "About Antivirus"
I tested that the FTP site is ok by installing a FTP client on the device to upload a file to ftp://172.17.136.31.
After a few hours, I do not see any log files being uploaded on the FTP website although there are log files in Program Files > Symantec > Antivirus > Symantec Data > Log.
I also checked Symantec System Center > Symantec Mobile Security > Logs > Event Log. But there is nothing.
I run wireshark on the server and saw nobody connect to FTP server.
Can anyone tell me whether I am doing anything wrongly? How can I edit the log upload interval to the...
