Hi, I am not able to connect to the other machine using pcAnywhere more than once. I mean if once it is connected and I disconnceted it, then it gives the error "Communications Error: Can't attch to the specified device". After that there is no way other than to go to that machine and restart the pcAnywhere service. Again after restarting the pcAnywhere service, I am able to connect only once. I don't think this problem is realted to the version of the pcAnywhere as I am using version 12.1.0 and my colleague is using 10.5.1 and we both are facing the same problem. If anyone has any advice on this i'd appreciate it. Thanks& regrads, Mohammad Zeeshan

Hello all, I have a server that acts as a common gateway for my support staff.  All of our clients have PcAnywhere hosts running and our support server is only used to connect to these hosts using PcAnywhere client. The support staff RDP's into the support server then starts PcAnywhere and remotes into other clients. It works about 95% of the time without issue.  The problem that I run into is that every once in a while the PcAnywhere connection is dropped and then the person that dropped the connection cannot reconnect while others on the same support server can. Logging off of RDP then logging back in sometime corrects the problem.  Other times, the support person needs to log off of the RDP session, reboot their PC then RDP back in an like magic they can connect again. Has anyone ever experienced this problem?  If so, was there a resolution that you found? Here are the specs of the support server. Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2  with all...

Can someone from Symantec please explain why the pcAnywhere 12.5 installer rearranges the icons on the desktop?  It's happened on both the host and remote installs. I'm running Windows XP Pro on both computers.  One is at SP2, the other at SP3.  On one install, I chose to have a desktop shortcut added; but not on the other.  Didn't matter.  After that step, the installer, without asking, lined up all the icons in columns on the left side of the desktop.  I don't see the reasoning--what about the install could possibly require auto-arranging my desktop? Sounds like a bug to me.

Title says it all. It's frustrating for our Support Department. Approval is good, when someone is logged on. But sometimes we'd like to take over PC's that are on, and where no one is sitting. Somehow, this isn't found in the manual, or in any Altiris manual. I also need to know that, if it's possible, how I can set it in Altiris 7. Thanks in Advance, Danny

Does anyone know if you can have 2 host behind the same public Ip address (Different private ip addresses) and connect to them with different remotes? Ie - Boss has it on his machine, secretary has it on her machine.  They have a dsl connection with one public ip number.  The boss wants to connect to his station form his house.  The secretary wants to connect from her house.  They want to connect to their computer, not each others? Thanks

I had an incident recently where a PCA connection was accidently left open for a long period of time by one of my staff. I am hoping someone can tell me if there is an option or preference that I have missed that you can set to auto disconnect the connection after a set period of time?  If not does anyone know of a trust worthy 3rd party app that does a similar thing?

Like many IT departments you probably maintain a database or spreadsheet to inventory computers. Here is a quick way to use bring your spreadsheet and pcAnywhere together. This works with the full version of pcAnywhere and pcAnywhere that is installed with SMC 7 First create a macro in your spreadsheet. I named the macro PCA_Remote and assigned Ctrl + q as a shortcut key to this macro. Next you will need to edit the macro and add the following code: Sub PCA_Remote() ' ' PCA_Remote Macro ' pcAnywhere Remote Control ' ' Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+q ' Dim vCell As String ' ****** What computer name to use. You may substitute ip addresses ******   vCell = ActiveCell.Value ' ****** You may nee to change the path if you did not use the default installation path. ****** Shell ("C:\Program Files\Symantec\pcAnywhere\AWREM32.EXE C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\pcAnywhere\Remotes\Network, Cable, DSL.chf /C" & vCell) End Sub Now save your...

I am running pc Anywhere Version 12.0.3 Build 174 on my notebook with Windows XP Version 5.1 Service Pack 3. I am getting an error when I try to connect to the host computer. The error is, " Reducing remote's encryption level from Symmetric to pc Anywhere encoding. Crypto API is not available. The system cannot find the file specified." After this message it trys to connect and then tells me the connection could not be made. It never asks for my log in information. I have spoken to Symantec and they say it's a Windows issue. I've spoken to Microsoft and they say it is a Symantec issue. Can anyone help? It would be greatly appreciated.

HI,     I currently am working on a project to manage our PCA hosts. We have 50-75 hosts that are not connected to our network. We have a work group setup on our computers here in the office. I have 4 employees that need this information and it would be nice if when one account got change it would reciprocate to the other users. The PCA management utility will not work because our PCs are not a part of a domain. Now I am not sure of how to do this task-fully without coping profile from one computer to another. Also on some of these host boxes out user name and password get changed every 6 months, so ideally our solution would accommodate that, however that is not the concern at the moment. Thanks again for any help.

We are replacing our remote control environment from Tivoli Remote Control to either one of the above listed. We are currently running NS 6.0.6074 and would have to use pcAnywhere as a stand alone application and transfer our Carbon Copy licenses. Can anyone provide any recommendations on which one to go with?

I need technical directions on how to set up pc anywhere to meet the new PCI requirements for credit card processing.  I understand that it must be encrypted, isolated and secured but I also understand there may be other requirements specific to pc anywhere.  Can you help?

I recently got the new Cincinnati Bell FiOptic installed withthe Westell 9100 modem.  Now, I cannot PCA into my home system from outside the network.  I have forwarded the appropriate 5631, 5632 ports, but can only connect when  Iam on the local network.  Has anyone had any experience with this modem?  The help files are nonexistant.  I do not know what else to try.  Thanks. Trying to use the Host "Confirm Connection" prompt to secure a POS system for PCI compliance.  However, there are times that the POS vendor wants to schedule after hours database maintenance, etc.  I'm thinking the POS system could be programmed to execute a file with an on-line parameter or something whenever a specially encrypted e-mail message is sent to it.  Is there a hook into pcAnywhere to "answer" the "Confirm Connection" dialog programatically?  I don't think I'd want to override pcAnywhere to temporarily not prompt to confirm as then any user could in theory get in for that time window.  I'm thinking this might be more straight forward than setting up an RSA SecurID server or SSL certificates to get two factor authentication.

Hi there, We've got a strange problems with PcAnywhere 12.5. We cannot see the remote mouse pointer move, unless both sides keep their mouse completely still for 5 seconds. The mouse always moves on the side that takes over the pc, but when the remote side moves their mouse, it doesn't work. Another way of going around this strange bug is clicking START on windows XP. This way you can see the remote mouse pointer also move. Is this a real bug, or is it a registry-setting? What's the solution? (it's really annoying for our supportdesk).
