The Symantec Workflow Solution product is a platform for coordinating components. It provides advanced logic and workflow capability to Symantec Management Platform solutions. It lets you use pre-built workflows and also lets you build custom workflows.
This topic provides an overview of Workflow Solution and its components. If you plan to develop a solution for the platform and integrate Workflow Solution, you should read the full Workflow documentation available at http://www.workflowswat.com.
What is a workflow?
Workflow is a term used for the automation of a business process that requires input from multiple parties and communication with (or among) disparate technologies to accomplish a business goal. This business process can render segments of its work to its consumers through different media or user interfaces, depending on the available and appropriate access points for all contributing parties. Examples of interaction include email, Web forms,...

I moved an application from a server running Solaris 8 to Solaris 10. To accomplish this, I added SAN disks to the application's disk group, which previously only had local disks. The disks on the SAN were visible to both old and new servers. Deported the disks on the old server, and imported on the new. I had to do a '-f' import, but no problem, worked fine. I had failed disks and plexes on the new server, so I removed them.
Not sure if this is relevant or not, but after cleaning up the failed disks and plexes on the new server, I re-imported on the old server to look at something. I did not start any volumes or mount anything, but for a time the disk group was imported on both old and new servers.
Now it looks like I may need to move back to the old server. The SAN admins have taken away access to the SAN disks, but no problem, I have all the local disks, right? Problem is, I get "import failed: Disk group...

In this screencast by PM Chakri Avala, learn about SmartMove and Thin Reclamation technologies offered in Veritas Storage Foundation. Next, watch Chakri go through a demo of SmartMove where he migrates data from a thick to a thin environment. Following the SmartMove demo, Chakri demonstrates how Thin Reclamation reclaims allocated but unused space, while the file system is online.

Hello:
Has anyone ever tried this and succeeded or found a work-around?
Configuration:
- Solaris 10 x86 (HW 06/06 patched) implemented inside VMWare Server 1.0.1
- Veritas Storage Foundation 4 Basic (latest) inside the same Virtual machine.
- Provision several VMWare based "*.vmdk" disks for Volume Manager to use.
The problem is that Volume Manager complains that "Disk sector size is not
supported" when I try to initialize the VMWare based disks for use with
Volume Manager. See below:
VxVM vxdisk ERROR V-5-1-5433 Device c2t3d0s2: init failed:Disk sector size is not supported

Veritas SF product till 4.1 was by default taking & keeping 5 backup copies of diskgroups under /etc/vx/cbr/bk directory.
Starting 5.0, this was reduced to only one copy. In most of the cases, diskgroup configuration gets modified the same day & issue occurs on the same day. As a result we are not left with any last known good config copy.
It would be great if this is changed default to 5 copies as was in previous versions.
I agree that since 5.0 can support very large configurations, it is quite possible that config copies would be bigger in size consuming the disk space under /etc/ filesystem. A workaround can be provided to this by
a) either giving an option to user to move the files to some other directory.
b) create some reserved space with in diskgroup where these backups can be hold & some privilaged command which can access those backups.

Symantec is proud to announce the launch of Veritas Operations Services 2.0 (VOS 2.0). This release is a culmination of months of development based on customer feedback, and represents a significant step forward in the overall value that Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows and Veritas Cluster Server customers can expect to receive from VOS.
This underpinning of the release is an integrated customer experience which encompasses VOS services that customers have used for over two years. Below are key highlights of the release:
Updated look and feel of the site, reports, notifications, and search capabilities including a customizable dashboard
Increased visibility of vital information through integrated searches for patches, documentation, and UMI codes
Improved efficiency of data collection and reporting through an integrated data collector
Better data center coverage with increased integration of Windows functionality

In all versions of Storage Foundation suite, Symantec provides a feature of IOFencing to prevent Cluster Split Brain situation & prevent data corruption.
As per design, IOFencing is a passive module i.e it doesn't react live unless there is any GAB port membership change. In case cluster keeps running fine, there is no check which is done by IOFencing module.
It would be great if IOFencing module is made intelligent so that it performs frequent checks whether the coordinator disks have appropriate registration keys & the data disks have appropriate registration & reservation keys.
There are many occurances faced in real life scenario when disks have stale keys it is realized much later once issue occurs. Very common issue we face on our environment is diskgroup not getting imported with an error "diskgroup has no valid configuration copies", the result we find is disks are left with stale keys because of which vxvm is not able to access the private region...

Overview
Storage Foundation HA 5.1 introduces keyless feature enablement. The primary objective of keyless is to improve the customer experience with Storage Foundation HA (SFHA) and make it easier to deploy, manage and use our products. Note that a customer continues to be required to have valid licenses for the product he/she is running. Entitlement does not change in 5.1
Review the information provided below as well as the attached pdf to learn more.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the advantage of using keyless versus standard licensing?
Keyless simplifies the task of a system admin deploying SFHA in a production environment. It also results in better overall system availability in a production environment by removing the need for temporary license keys.
Before 5.1, license keys were required for SFHA to be functional on a host. If at time of deployment, a system admin didn't have the appropriate key handy (which can happen for a variety of reasons), he...

Hi everybody,
maybe is not an issue, but I'd like to be sure of this...
I have a solaris 9 system that has 2 kind of storage, 1 HITACHI USPV and 1 HITACHI AMS2100;in this system is installed Storage Foundation Suit 4.1 mp3 and if I do vxdisk list this is the output;ù
Disk_66
Disk_67
HDSUSPV_0
HDSUSPV_1
first 2 disks are ams2100, and other 2 are USPV disks.
Is correct that veritas has named "Disk" the enclosure of AMS2100? exist an ASL to change the enclosure in a "most friendly" name like the ASL for USPV?
thanks a lot for the answers

I'm in a kind of ugly situation. I have a solaris server running solaris 9 and veritas volume manager 5.0. The root disk is mirrored. The server was rebooted last week and couldn't boot off the root disk. I was able to successfully boot off the mirror, and can see in vxdisk list that the root disk is reporting as online failing. The problem is that my management is dickering over our Sun contract, which has expired, and they won't authorize me to get a replacement disk. So I'm running off the mirror for I don't know how long.
questions -
What bad things will happen if I continue running off the mirror? Do I need to turn the mirror into a root disk and run without a mirror? I don't think the mirror is encapsulated, do I need to encapsulate it if I turn it into a root disk? And can anyone point me towards documentation that would walk me through doing this?

Hey folks, I am doing some POC in our lab and found this problem:
two nodes redhat SFCFS cluster 5.0 MP3
testing when node A heartbeat link down, mount point /storage on node B will also unmount
is that support to auto fail over? if so how could I set it ?
I can't imagine when there is 20nodes cluster, one node fail to bring down 19 all healthy cluster?! doesn't make sense to me, please help.
