Hello all, I have just set up a new Failover cluster and wanted to install SFW 'just' for mirroring SAN partitions (meaning: no Campus cluster or VCS). This should be possible, I think, but the solutions guide seems to miss this point... Well, I am new to Veritas SFW. Can someone give me a hint? Best regards, Peter.

The Volume Status table in the SFW 5.1 admin guide lists lots of status values as well. However, after finding the Degraded status showing up as "-" in the vxprint output, I wondered how the rest of the possible Status values will look like in real-life. I'm unable to simulate many anomaly scenarios with our limited test systems. I was looking at Admin guides for Solaris/Aix, they both contain detailed lists of Volume, Plex, States (& descriptions) that are displayed in vxprint outputs associated descriptions. Is there similar info for Windows Volume & Plex?

After overloading the server, there is incomplete recovery of dynamic disks in a cluster group (screenshot_sfw1, screenshot_sfw2). Log shows error V-76-58645-10230 (screenshot_sfw3).  In the knowledge base is similar mistakes, but there are solutions that do not lead to a correction of the problem. Each server overload, the number of disks in a position to stop different!! At the same time fully exlorer displays all drives and they can make a write operation, reading. ____________________ Windows server 2008 x64, SFW 5.1

The Admin guide has a list of Volume Status descriptions but some of the listed statuses are not what they appear in vxprint output. I have managed to simulate some States/Status but not all. For example, for the "Healthy" status, vxprint output will show "ACTIVE". Similarly for the "Degraded" status, vxprint output will simply show "-". In the below output sample, "Failed" status is accurately shown as "Failed". Diskgroup = OTL2K801-Dg0 TY NAME         ASSOC        KSTATE   LENGTH   PLOFFS   STATE    TUTIL0 PUTIL0 v HarddiskVolume2 -            -       8192     -        -       -       - v...

A customer is trying to capture a snapshot of a physical server in order to build a virtual image. He is using a VMWare client to perform a VSS snapshot. But when using it on a server with Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows installed, an error occurs. Same action ends up with no errors if no VSF is installed on the server. Note that the VSF version installed is Basic, thus without the Flashsnap feature. Is Veritas Flashsnap needed to do a snapshot on the servers with VSF or is there a workaround to make VSS work even without the Flashsnap option installed ?

Hello, we are using Storage foundation 3.2.539 on a server 2000 Operating System, which mainly controlled a SAN via Fiber Channel; the SAN consisted of 2 JBOD's with an Embedded RaidWatch Software called RaidWatch. The server 2000 server in which storage foundation was installed and configured on crashed, we are in the process to attempt to recover but we are in need of access to the SAN.  We installed new drives to install a fresh operating system. We had the SAN configured with disk groups and within the disk groups we had disks to partitions, the question I have is that since Storage foundation was the software used to configure the SAN storage to a disk/partition level. If we install the same storage foundation software and attempt to hook the SAN back up, will we loose the SAN? if not what are the steps to take.I ask this because I'm not sure where the actual data is held on which the SAN was configured on the server side or JBOD side. The Raidwatch is...

Storage Foundation for Windows 5.1 on a Windows 2003 Cluster - I am attempting to update the Storage Foundation license keys to the purchased keys (currently on DEMO) and am encountering the following error: "Provided license conflicts with the existing key(s)." This is when I hit "update" to enter the new key and I cannot remove the existing key because it says it cannot remove the base key. Tried it with the cluster offline and had the same results. Am I missing something simple here?

Hi, My cluster consist of one exchange box and one failover box.  My exchange box took a dive several days ago.  Now, I only have the secondary node up and running. My question to you is: To recover from this: 1.  I went ahead and deployed a new system using the same "failed" exchange server hostname and ip address.  Prior to joining the server to the domain, I went ahead and reset the server object account in AD.  2.  When I try to install exchange on this server (after ensuring the other server is turned off, since I have to rename the new server to the EVS name and IP address) in disaster recovery mode, I keep getting a prompt to provide a password.  The message that is appearing is:  "The microsoft exchange messaging and collaboration services component    requires a username, domain, and password for the existing exchange 5.5    installation service account'  3.  We...

Hi, I would like to change / migrate / encapsulate a Volume belonging to Microsoft Disk Management, Disk Group with data on it, to a SFW Volume. Windows 2008 was first installed and now we should migrate the storage and it isn't possible to make a mirror with the microsoft solution. So we installed SFW 5.1 to have more possibilities. Unfortunately after the installation of SFW 5.1 I can't do anyting more with this Volume. Can I change the Volume belonling to a Microsoft Disk Management, Disk Group to a SFW Disk Group? Thanks. Best regards, Stephane

Hello! I was asking on other places, but I`m gathering the different opinions. I`m working in the middle size business. We`re looking for shared storage I`m considering what iSCSI solution is better if compare of price and functionality - software or hardware? And what vendor is more reliable?
