It’s hard to believe, but Vision 2012 is nearly upon us in Las Vegas next week.  We have lots of great sessions planned, many of which have fellow customers and partners joining us.  Some great Enterprise Vault/Enterprise Vault.cloud/Clearwell eDiscovery Platform sessions with customers presenting include:

  • IM B03 Archiving On Premise or Cloud
  • IM B08 Backup is for Recovery; Archiving is for Discovery
  • IM B24 Archiving and eDiscovery: Real World ROI Panel (2 customers and 1 partner)
  • IM B26 Enterprise Vault Customer Panel (4 On Premise and 2 Cloud customers)
  • IM B41 Clearwell eDiscovery Customer Panel (part of eDiscovery Day on Monday)

Vision will be a great conference this year, so we look forward to seeing everybody there!   If you haven’t already done so, please make sure you use the online scheduler tool to sign up for various sessions and labs as some are already fully subscribed. ...

Is your organization considering implementing an archiving or eDiscovery solution?  Do you need help in developing a business case?  If so, I’m hosting a webcast on March 21stat 10 AM PST where we will discuss the Real World ROI that our Enterprise Vault, Enterprise Vault.cloud and Clearwell customers have experienced.

Having managed a 3,000 seat implementation of Enterprise Vault myself before joining Symantec, I have a number of ROI examples that I personally experienced as a result of our Enterprise Vault implementation … stories that will make your head turn.  For example, can you imagine being able to answer this question from the CEO in 10 minutes (after searching 90 million items in Enterprise Vault): “I have a suspicion that someone is leaking confidential information to a dissident shareholder.  Could we use our new Enterprise Vault system to determine if my suspicion is correct?”

In addition, we will...

In line with best practice at the end of September 2011 the EV team deployed a renewed code signing certificate used for digitally signing files. The new certificate's trusted root may not present in the list of trusted root certificates of your Windows Server. In most cases Windows is able to automatically download and update the missing trusted root certificate without user intervention, but if your system is on a segregated network with no access to the DMZ or the automatic certificate update mechanism is disabled you may experience problems when validating signed files on the target system.

In most cases the problem is no worse than that you will get an error 'The issuer of this certificate could not be found' when you inspect the digital signature of the signed file and view the corresponsing certificate's Certification Path.

In the case of the FSA Agent the problem is worse, as the installation will fail on x64 systems when it attempts...

Spurred on by a question on "Archiving Professionals" group on LinkedIn some months ago, I've been asking clients to tell me their reasons for archiving their social media and website content. Here's the summary / consensus:

  1. Best practice information management and governance - we see this across multiple industries, mainly in companies considered to be best in class. I.e. Actively manage information throughout its lifecycle, ensure it is discoverable, ensure proper end-of-life disposition, etc.
  2. Regulatory compliance - this is usually on top of (1) where regulations are really clear (i.e. FINRA on social media and websites). Archives that enable instant access to historic social media and website content save a huge amount of money where discovery and/or regulator requests are frequent, and where original content is complex (most websites and social media are complex in this context).
  3. ...

On May 16, 2011, Autonomy announced that they are acquiring Iron Mountain Digital (IMD) assets including:

  • NearPoint technology gained from acquiring Mimosa Systems
  • Hosted Digital Record Center for Compliant Messaging
  • E-Discovery Suite, including products and solutions gained from acquiring Stratify

Per the press release, the acquisition did not include the Iron Mountain Technology escrow service, Medical Archive services and other smaller operations that were recently shut down by Iron Mountain. The transaction is expected to close in July 2011 and is subject to customary closing conditions.

Does this affect you?

We would like to take this opportunity to invite IMD and Autonomy customers to migrate to Symantec solutions, and avoid the uncertainties and...

Big news today on the archiving and eDiscovery front with Symantec’s  announcement that we have signed a definitive agreement to acquire Clearwell  Systems. The combination of Symantec’s market leading Enterprise Vault integrated content archive and Clearwell’s market leading eDiscovery platform will position Symantec as a full service solution for enterprise information management and eDiscovery.  We also congratulate Clearwell on their recent “leader” rating in Gartner’s just released eDiscovery Magic Quadrant http://www.clearwellsystems.com/ediscovery-news/pr..., and we are excited at the prospect of having their exceptionally talented team join Symantec. Please see this site for further details: ...

Is your organization struggling to manage stockpiles of data?  Have you run out of storage space for your back-up tapes?  These are telltale signs that your organization needs to overhaul its approach to information governance.

The anchor for successful information governance is Symantec Enterprise Vault 10.  The latest version of Enterprise Vault will help organizations reduce data stockpiles, decrease operation expenses and minimize litigation risks.

Enterprise Vault 10 can help your organization do so though its Data Classification Services technology.  At its heart, Data Classification Services empowers organizations to establish more effective information governance procedures.  Companies are able to better analyze and retain information that is significant or that must be kept – and nothing else.

Available initially for Microsoft Exchange Server, Data Classification Services intelligently analyzes content as email is...
