In the article Bitly embraces two-factor authentication after data breach, Forrester analyst Andrew Rose told that “Reading Bitly's comments today, two things jump out - Bitly's comments about "immediately enabling two factor authentication" for a remote data store, suggests that their remote access methodologies were simple ID and password. This is a vulnerable state to be in and one which has ultimately come back to haunt them.”

Bitly is the latest in a growing number of companies finding value in two-factor authentication, which has now been enabled for Bitly accounts on the source code repository, company-wide and at third-party services. VIP Manager brings in a cool feature called User Groups. This feature enables an enterprise to segment their users into groups and assign credential policies based on user groups. Here is a short video to explain how it is all done.

Symantec would like to announce the new update of the Validation and ID Protection Service (VIP), with new functionality for VIP Manager and Enterprise Gateway v9.3.

Three new groups features – user groups, admin groups, and a Super Admin group – in this release provide greater flexibility in policy-driven identity management to meet diverse needs, as well as reduce risk and complexity for keeping administrator rights up-to-date. Additionally, there is now the option to use Device Identification and Intelligent Authentication independent of each other, for added protection as part of a multi-factor authentication policy. These new features and others are available now in your VIP Manager. Please ensure you download the Enterprise Gateway v9.3 update to use these features.

VIP Third-Party Integrations

Symantec VIP provides almost 30 enterprise third party application plug-ins integrating seamlessly with industry standard VPNs, enterprise access manager and single sign on products, remote desktop access products, and end-point authentication modules over Windows, Linux and other UNIX platforms. In the past few months, we focused on enhancing console login experience with Windows Sever 2008 and Windows 7, enabled Microsoft NPS servers and Cisco ISE to authenticate with Symantec VIP, ensured Cisco Secure ACS 5.x compatibility with the VIP services.
