What does it traditionally take to set your environment with a backup server?
Well, first of all, you have to select the server that will become your media server. What specifications should it have and should you get warranty?
Then you need to find a storage solution. How much storage should you get, what brand, should you get an appliance that will allow the use of OST (Open Storage) for the oh-so-hot deduplication, and again, should you get warranty?
Now that you have chosen the hardware, you now need to purchase the server operating system and your trusted backup software, which would involve the core license as well as the agents for all the servers you are backing up and options including the deduplication option.
Once you have made all those purchases, it is now time to install and configure everything. Now, you are ready to back up your environment.
