1. NetBackup Storage Focus Group: Take part in a 90 minute Focus Group in which you will get to tell us how you want to see your storage overviews. We also want to know what information matters to you, so that we design keeping your needs in mind. For this focus group, we are looking for storage administrators who as part of their tasks manage or monitor storages in NetBackup. The session is scheduled for Monday 04.15 between 10:30-12pm and Tuesday 04.16 between 3:30-5pm.

Resolution of Ops Center Services not started,When Upgrading VBR TO Ops Center

Hi Guys

i want to mention a very special step which we need to take care about,when upgrading VBR To Ops Center

as when we upgrade OpsCenter from VBR ,And go to internet explorer ,it shows Server not found

when we checked the services Ops Center Services were not starting

so i took help from symantec

they resolve this and told that donot uninstall the VBR Server, and told us to follow the steps:

Use the following procedure to uninstall VBR after upgrading to OpsCenter server on Windows platforms:

1. Select Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and stop the Symantec Product Authentication Service.

2. Navigate to the following location after upgrading from VBR to OpsCenter server: <install_path>\VERITAS\Security\Authentication...

Ops Center (Free Product)

OpsCenter is a free product which gives you the ability to monitor, alert and do operational reporting on NetBackup, Enterprise Vault, Backup Exec and PureDisk. OpsCenter server is part of NetBackup and can be deployed on master server for managing a single domain, or independently for managing multiple NetBackup Domains. It also allows you to do minor management tasks such as “upping” tape drives, restarting failed jobs, freezing/unfreezing and other tape functions, restarting services/daemons on Masters etc. The free version limits historical reporting.

Recently, I replied to a question regarding OpsCenter reporting. I find OpsCenter rather intuitive and easy to use, but I've dealt with a lot of similar stuff for several years, so I can understand how someone new to it might need a short guide/tour. I'm going to post a simple 'how-to' in creating simple alerting similar to output of the Activity Monitor (or bpdbjobs).

Within OpsCenter, the Report Template I get the most out of is the "Tabular Backup Report." This report gives me a lot of fields and a lot of fields to filter by. To get to this report, you can click on:

Reports (Tab) -> Report Templates -> Backup -> Job Browser -> Tabular Backup Report.

The Tabular Backup Report gives the following columns: Client Name, Job Duration (sec), Job End Time, Expiration Time, Job File Count, Throughput (in KB/s), Job Primary ID, Job Secondary ID, Schedule/Level Type, Master Server, Media Server, Policy Name...

Problem:

One of the challenges of administrators is gathering statistics and notifications. Symantec provides a lot of great resources to help manage events and notifications. I'm able to set up traps from my OpsCenter server to go to my Veritas Operations Manager, where I can create custom notifications for certain events. In Command Central, I can also create notifications. Additionally, I can also create notifications for the same system services that are tied in with Command Central within VOM. Within VOM, I can create notifcations and send notices to other Symantec systems to handle those. It seems, though, that VOM is my centralized server for handling events.

But I don't just have my Symantec services; I also have an F5 Big-IP load balancer, Solaris systems with ASR and consoles that complain about hardware. With all these events, there has to be a way to handle notifications so that I don't have to log...

If you're like me, you're in a company that's understaffed and overworked.
