""How to restore Exchange Backup in a Recovery Storage Group on an alternate server''

Prerequesites
1.) Create a temp folder at c:\. if already created empty the temp folder if any storage group folder is present in it.
2.) Remove the folder of RSG from the physical location if exist. For reference/example i attached the snap below for the usual location of RSG physical location.

3.) Create a Recovery Storage Group at destination server(the alternate Exchange server on which you want to restore MailBox),
4.) Right-click the Recovery Storage Group--> Add Database to Recover.  Must not mount the database.  When database mounted, even if it's dismounted, the restore will fail.

Start Restore
1.) Open the Backup, Archive and Restore
2.) "File" menu, select "...

Environment
WIn2003, Exchange2003

Problem
I was not able to restore mailboxes because i was not able to see the Exchange Task button when i right mouse click on the MailBox in the RSG. I was just able to see the HELP button when i click right on the Mailbox in the RSG.

Resolution
I just installed SP2 for exchange. As you can see in the below snap that now the Exchange Task and the Help menu both are available after installing the SP2 for Exchange

Today i would like to discuss my experience in which i was not able to create the Media Server Deduplication Pool

Environment

NBU7
Win2003 Server R2 64bit

Problem

Actually i was trying to use the deduplication option but i was selecting wrong option.

i wanted to use the deduplication future on the NBU server. i had to select the highlighted option ""Media Server Deduplication Pool"" because i did not have any external pure disk and actually i had a free partition for   ""Media Server Deduplication Pool""  but i was selecting the red highlighted option (Pure Disk Deduplication Pool) which actually was a wrong selection in my scenerio. See the picture for your reference

Frist - see my blog on just how it Writes to tape.
www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/understanding-how-netbackup-writes-tape

Now with that understanding your question about jobs wanting a tape drive.

You have different options on how to set up the use of your tape drives.
When you setup a Storage Unit, you tell it how many tape drives to use at once.
For example we are going to say 2 drives.
You also say how many Streams can go to the tape drive at once.
For example we are going to say 10 streams.

So far we have 2 tape drives with 10 streams per drive - so right now we can have 20 active jobs at once.

10 jobs streaming to driveA and 10 jobs streaming to driveB

Now a job streaming to driveA completes.  A job that is queued will now go active and stream to driveA so it has 10 streams again.

Roadmap_August 2009.png

According to published plans, the all-conquering LTO tape format has no future after LTO 6, which is expected in 2012. This is ridiculous and there must be a secret roadmap for LTOs 7 and 8.

The LTO tape format dominates the open systems tape business, is used increasingly by supercomputer customers and is making some inroads into the mainframe area via bridges such as those from Luminex or Fujitsu's CentricStore (ETERNUS CS) virtual tape library (VTL). Supercomputer users like Argonne and NASA Ames in the USA will have ten year roadmaps. They can generate 8PB or more of data a year and there is simply no alternative to tape for...

Installation environment:

If you are in the implementation of the process of recovery encountered an error: v-126-3
You need in your "master server" and "boot server" to use ping "master server name", "boot server name" and "client name".
This error is not necessarily a result of not upgraded due to patches, it may be because the host did not modify the hosts file created.
