Today i would like to share my experience with Tape cartridges which i had with my Tape Library in which(Tape cartridges) i was trying to remove specific images.....

I had Veritas Netbackup 6.5+MS windows2003 server and i was expiring specific backup image(s) from Netbackup administration console-->Catalog but when I was trying to use the command "available_media.cmd" i watched that the status still showing its FULL....even I close and open the command prompt so that it can refresh the status and even Netbackup Administration Console as well but i have not got any success...

Actually I wanted to keep some images in tape cartridges because some images were important for me that’s why I was not removing all those backup images from the tape via Veritas Netbackup GUI administration Console

Tapes are linear - meaning that they write from the front to the back....

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, so that they don't run into the same nightmare as i did when upgrading from 6.5.3 to 6.5.4.. I had a fun 30 hour day getting bounced around the world with support only to go back to my initial suggestion of reverting to a catalog backup. With the addition of the db_marker.txt file and the behavior of the sun patchadd it can cause a nightmare if you are symlinking your db/images to another location..

the following applies if you are installing the upgrade using the patches provided by Sun..

If the following conditions are true, people need to take extra care when performing the upgrade using the Sun patches
• You are symlink’ing <install location>/openv/netbackup/db/images to another location
• And/or you are symlink’ing <install location>/openv/db/staging to another location
• you are upgrading by using the Sun Netbackup 6.5.4 patches (ie 127655-04)

If these are...

So It took a bit too long to get right, but VCB is a powerful tool to get your backups flying along.

Network congestions, poorly configured ports, old servers, all other known enemies of the Backup guys/gals are defeated with the move to Virtual Servers, and the use of VCB backups.
Our setup is around 40 vm's and the strategy was get the oldest boxes that cant be decommed over to a VM.  Now boxes that would jam up our backup window are leading the pack.  We get speeds regularly around 45,000KB /Second.  This was a game changer in our environment, and with the incrimental backups now available I have no issues at all.   The other nice factor that helps our stats is the lack of partial backups.  It's an all or nothing game, and once you get it right, you have very few failures.  If you do have one its a snap shot jam up most of the time.   This is fixed quickly by logging onto your vmware infrastructure client, and...

Today i will share you the blog in which i faced my MailBox was not accessable after my Exchange Server2003 was restarted abnormally. i saw my MailBox Store container stopped in the Server Manager in Exchange Server2003.
imagebrowser image

I simply went to services in the Exchange Server 2003 and i had noticed that the Microsoft Exchange information Store service was stopped. I just started it.

imagebrowser image
Now you see the MailBox Store container is still showing stopped (but before doing refresh). As i clicked on refresh the status of MailBox Store changed to started as you can see in the last figure.

I was really shocked when I learned that EMC Documentum (Content Management solution) does not allow you to put itself into "online backup mode".

As we used Documentum with an Oracle database, and your content storage and DB should be backed up at the same time to ensure the consistency.

But the problem of implementaion of "hot backup" is obvious: we have to freeze the DB with metadata prior to backup of the filesystem. So what is the solution?

The key is here: perform regular Oracle hot backup and start fs backup from a notification script. This can lead to discrepancies between your content storage and metadata, but your Documentum admin will be able to delete all unnecessary files which were appeared after the DB backup.

The Hustle

Our requirement:   to ensure we have the latest available NetBackup version installed, essentially to cater for Win2008 servers but also for any other benefits with the latest release.

We initially intended to upgrade to 6.5.2 shortly after its release during the first half of 2008, however this idea was soon binned due to the number of bugs reported in the GA version & 6.5.2A (having only fixed the scheduling issue) was not deemed to be acceptable either. Deciding to monitor the release of 6.5.3 we waited & waited and to all intents & purposes it looked like this was an acceptable version to upgrade to - & then the security hotfix meant! However, we did still have every intention of upgrading to this version. But time wore on and then 6.5.4 was on the horizon so it was deemed appropriate to await developments & monitor the forums for possible issues.

There are, so far, only a couple...
