Hey Guys,

Remember, status 2 popping up while taking SharePoint backups. I bet you must be .. as these are the really frustrating ones.

Some days back i posted about how to set the spswrapper timeout

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/configuring-spswrapper-timout-registry

Now we can set this value via the tool - sharepoint_check.exe by a single command.

Sharepoint_check.exe -timeout [Value in Seconds]

You shall get the below message.

SPSWrapper Timeout set to X seconds.

You can download the latest version from the below link. This also contains other small fixes.

Hey Guys,

Recently I came across a case where the one of our customer was facing an issue on restore of SharePoint List that contained custom columns.

Before

BeforeCustomCol.jpg

After

AfterCustomCol.png

I tried reproducing it in house but I could not, then I asked for output of spprobe2010.exe, from the output I could see that the customer has upgraded SharePoint to cumulative pack - 14.0.6134.5000.

I upgraded my SharePoint setup to same cumulative pack and tested again and voila!!! The issue is reproduced at my setup. I investigated further and found that there are some underlying SQL changes in the cumulative pack.

The fix to this has been provided in an ET...

An account executive I work with recently asked me for two questions to start discussions with his customers on backup and recovery issues.  Limiting this to only two is a challenge so this post is the first two questions I would suggest.

Two simple questions to ask yourself (or your customers)

1.     How are you positioned for Disaster Recovery?
2.     Do you want to be tape free?

Both of these are intertwined with the trends in the data protection space, driven by  Deduplication appliances and replication.

Let’s hit the second question first.  Tape has its place for longer term retention.  That has not disappeared for most organizations.  “Cloud” based archiving services are starting to...

Hi,

Recently I have seen a spate of escalations where the Microsoft SharePoint Resources node is not visible in Backup Archive and Restore (BAR) GUI and as a result SharePoint backup fails with Status 2.

Initially I suspected some configuration steps were missing but SharePoint_check.exe came clean and so does our spprobe.exe but the issue still remains.

After investigating the logs from various customers, it was discovered that the process SPSWrapperX.exe, which is responsible for discovering SharePoint topology, is timing out before we could discover the topology and hence we are not seeing the Microsoft SharePoint Resources Node in BAR GUI.

To overcome this problem we can configure a Timeout option in registry for discovering topology.

Create a new Key called “Timeout“ under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veritas\NetBackup\BEDS\Engine\SharePoint\

Then create a REG_DWORD value “gettopology...

In NetBackup 7 monitoring SLP activity has been greatly simplified with the introduction of SLP reports

in OpsCenter which is discussed in more detail later in this document.

It is also possible to get an immediate view of the progress of the SLPs use the Storage Lifecycle Policy

utility command, nbstlutil. This command can be used to spot potential backlog problems before they

build up to unmanageable levels. Two options of the nbstlutil command are particularly useful for

this:

nbstlutil report – this command (which is new in NetBackup 7.1) provides a summary of

incomplete images. This command supports the –storageserver, –mediaserver and –

lifecycle qualifiers to home in on ‗hot spots‘ that may develop into backlog situations and

displays the number of duplication operations in progress (either queued or active) and the total
