  My Netbackup Activites and Symantec Support

  Hi i am working as Systems Engineer in one of the Vendor Side Company , and give support for Symantec Netbackup + Desktop Laptop + Ops Center for lots of Customer .and if got any complicated issue , we took help from Symantec  with excellent support. In this blog i would like to contribute my Experience for trouble shooting various cases at customer side with the help of Symantec And it wil help lots of people who are new in using Symantec Netbackup.

  SSR and Hyper-V_VM Protection

  Hello all I am making a blog post after a long time but now onwards I will be regular! We keep getting queries on best practices/ways to protect Hyper-V VMs with SSR, so here is some useful information. Two different Methods/strategies could be employed to protect virtual machines on Windows Server with Hyper-V role enabled environment:   Method 1: Host level backup [Please note that for the backups to be crash consistent snapshot integration services should be installed in the guest machine.] Install Symantec System Recovery on the Windows Server with Hyper-V role enabled Take host backup. During backup please select OS volume and all related drives for backup. If OS volume and related drives are not backed up then user will not be able to restore. As shown in screenshot below, all drives will be listed as related drives when Hyper-V role is enabled....

    Why Roseville? We started the NetBackup and Backup Exec launch sequence this week with the release of the Countdown to Better Backup Calendar. This was modeled after the idea of an Advent Calendar. Every few days we will open a new window to reveal a new feature of the launch calendar leading up to the product launch. As part of the launch effort each square on the calendar will open in a different city worldwide. This helps us reach our customers and partners in cities around the world and it gives us a chance to bring together all the people who have worked on the release.   Who's Looking After Your Clouds?

  Cloud is the answer. It has to be doesn't it? And its all about software, right? Wrong. I'm at VMworld in Copenhagen this week and its not just about software and its not all about virtual. Sean Regan walked around the show and found 14 hardware boxes that weigh more than him. Cloud? Maybe - clouds aren't weighed down by steel boxes. Consolidation? Maybe. Some of its expansion, especially in storage, but shhh, don't tell anyone; its a secret.   From customers I've talked to here it seems to be all about doing more with existing hardware. Getting the cloud you want from the infrastructure you've got. That sounds like its a blend of physical and virtual, not just all about virtual. Symantec can take the hardware you've got today and help you build a cloud infrastructure on top of it in partnership with VMware.   Free T-Shirts and Technical Stuff

  As I've struggled my way through this last week on jet lag, limited sleep and caffeine at Symantec's Worldwide Sales and Marketing Conference, two things have struck me. The first is that Backup Exec has a special place in a lot of peoples' hearts. Its roots can be traced back around 30 years and there is a very real passion - among the sales force and pre-sales groups in Symantec, within the channel partner community and among our customers too. We brought themed "Backup Exec Boot Camp" t-shirts and hats to the conference as prizes and throughout the week more and more employees and partners were wearing them - through their own choice.   Cloud Pilots? Anyone can drive a car, pilots fly planes. Clouds?

  I noticed an interesting tweet today from Rachel Dines @Forester. It quoted Carl Meadows @SungardAS.    "Common misconception: cloud solves our sys admin problems. Wrong! Cloud requires more skilled sys admins."  I have been thinking about this a lot lately as I drive down 101 to Mountain View from SF.  Each day someone gets in a fender bender and traffic continues around them. Sure, life is disrupted but it's par for the course. Sometimes car accidents happen. As I drive south I also pass under SFO. Each day 100s of planes take off. The expectation is that these planes will almost never have an accident. They are piloted by highly trained pilot while the car on 101 is piloted by someone like you and me.  Cars are like servers.  Planes are like Clouds.  When a plane crashes the media shows up at the scene, the bloggers speculate....

  FAQ: Difference between BESR and BE.

  Some of the main differences between Backup Exec and Backup Exec System Recovery: 1) Backup Exec is a backup and restore software, whereas Backup exec System Recovery is a recovery software. 2) BESR can write data only to disks not to tapes, whereas BE can write to both. 3) BE works at file level whereas BESRworks at block level. 4) One of the main features of BESR is dissimilar hardware restore technology. One can perform a Bare Metal Restore of a system with Backup Exec also, but mostly onto a similar hardware. 5) BESR can perform Physical to Virtual conversations, BE cannot. Regards...

  New Backup Exec System Recovery version - First Availability

  A First Availability program for the new version of Backup Exec System Recovery (Symantec System Recovery 2011) has just started and you are welcome to sign up and participate provided you have current product maintenance through the end of June 2011 or you are entitled to the latest version by way of a partnership with Symantec (reseller, ISV, IHV, VAR, etc.). By signing up you will be able to obtain and run the production-ready general availability (GA) version of Symantec System Recovery 2011 before it is posted publicly on our external site.   V2iSR.exe Application Error - Cannot Load Ghost

  V2iSR.exe Application Error -Could not load Ghost 14.0   I was getting the v2iSR.exe error when trying to load my backup.  The error was preventing me from loading my backup image.  Out of frustration, I googled this and I found no solution.  After some tinkering, I noticed my DATE/TIME was wrong, most likely due to some malware.  The fix was simple.   Make sure your DATE/TIME is set to the correct date in your BIOS.  This was my fix and I hope it helps somebody out.  I can't tell you how frustrated I was at the thought of reformatting and reloading my drive.

  Types of Backups

  To understand the Types/Methods of Backup we must dive into the attributes of a file. There are 4 basic attributes of a file which are known as DOS attributes: READ, HIDDEN, SYSTEM and ARCHIVE Whenever we think of Backups we must only think of the ARCHIVE attribute.  Thumb Rule: Whenever the ARCHIVE attribute is ON (1) the file is ready for backup and whenever the ARCHIVE attribute is OFF (0) the file has been backed up.
