Hardware Encryption for LTO4 Tapes

Attached is a whitepaper on how hardware encryption is done for LTO4 tapes.  Hardware encryption is part of the specs for LTO4 tapes.  Thus it is not available for LTO3 tapes although LTO4 tape drives can write to LTO3 tapes.

The part that I find particularly interesting is how an encrypted LTO4 is protected against low level copying.

Exchange GRT Copy to Tape fails ...

Hello,

i had a fine working Exchange GRT Backup to Disk. Everything worked even single mail restore.
Now imagine what happened during the copy to tape ?

Yes, "Access Denied"
or more detailed:
V-79-57344-33928 - Access is denied. Access denied to directory .
 V-79-57344-766 - Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials. Review the resource credentials for the job, and then run the job again.

Exchange 2007 is on W2KR2 installed.
Media Server BE2010 is on W2K8R2 installed.

Solution was to implement the ipv6 workaround mentioned in
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/306689.htm

It looks like, as if the media server wants to talk...

Problems with non English Operating Systems

Hello all,

i will describe a specific Problem i had with a german Exchange Server Installation and BE2010

Environment:
Backup Server: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard German with Backup Exec 2010
Exchange Server: Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard German, Exchange 2007

The Backup Exec Remote Agent was upgraded from 12.5 with a push installation.
Exchange GRT Backup always reported Back that the CDO is too old or not installed.

"V-79-57344-4615 - To support individual mailbox message and folder restores from Information Store backups, you must download and install the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects package version 06.05.7888 or later on the Exchange 2007 server. This package can be found on the Microsoft web site. "
