  End Marker Unreadable Workaround

  I'm not sure if anyone has made this observation before, but I didn't see it in the forums, so I"m just going to post it in case it's useful to anyone. This is a way to remove an end marker unreadable from a tape, without losing all the data on that tape. It's not perfect, and you will lose some of the data, but it's a method that can be used if you're very low and tape space and need a tape that, say, only got 5% written before it became unappendable due to an inconsistency, network error, etc, throwing an end marker unreadable error. To be able to do this, you'll need to have at least one other writable tape, or disk storage, available with enough space to contain all the data on the tape that has the error. If you're going with another tape as your approach, you'll have to have a tape drive that can mount two tapes simultaneously. Otherwise, you'll have to write to disk storage first, and then to the other tape. ...

  Backup Exec: Move to machine with different operating system

  The available knowledge base article to move a Backup Exec server to another machine does not help you, if the new machine runs on a different OS, e.g. 64-bit operating system. I noticed that many users do not know of a useful option in Backup Exec, named “copy server configurations”. With this free option and my following guide, you will be able to copy your existing Backup Exec server onto a new machine with different operating system.   If both servers are present, you could use the following steps to copy your data: please note: Go to "Tools" -> "Install options and license keys on this media server" and check if the free option to copy server configuration, named "copy server configurations", is installed on the media server.   BE System Recovery 2010: No migration from Manager!?

  So, like you perhaps already know, the new version of Backup Exec System Recovery got released; Backup Exec System Recovery 2010. Some things changed, that are really important. For example the Manager no longer exists. This solution got replaced by Backup Exec System Recovery Management Solution. I do not want to give a summary of the differences or pros and contras, I only want to talk about one fact that, in my opinion, is a absolute disaster:   If I'm not wrong (and I really searched all the information to this issue) you will not be able to migrate your storage destinations, jobs, schedules and so on from the Manager into the Management Solution. This means, that you will have to re-create you whole backups again! Why in the world is that not possible? I already know customers of ours who will definitely go crazy.   The only information I found is, that you can migrate from BESR Solution to BESR Management...

  Summary - 9/1/09 User Group Meeting

  Our second meeting went very well. It was great to see returning faces as well as new faces at Adesa in Carmel! 19 people attended from 14 different orginizations around the Indianapolis area! Phil Weingart gave a quick overview of the backup environment at Adesa, touching on design challenges and future projects. We also had two very successful breakout sessions discussing Disaster Recovery and VCB Implementation. Our next meeting is scheduled for December 8th. Stay tuned for details on time and location!   Enterprise Vault and Backup Exec

  Backup Exec 12.5 released an Agent for Enterprise Vault, which is designed to offer complete protection for Enterprise Vault 7.5 implementations.  When Enterprise Vault 8.0 was released, architectural changes in EV 8.0 made the Backup Exec 12.5 Agent for Enterprise Vault unable to automatically protect all aspects of Enterprise Vault. An integrated solution will be in the next version of BE.   network read failed (42)

  hi i am facing some problem in veritas netbackup 6.5.2 i have 3 servers which are configured as media server. now one server with windows platform is not getting backed up from past 2 days and giving error code 42 network read failed i checked network settings and host files ping test from host to server and vice versa. and i checked some log and in bpdbm log file i found msg that is db_valid_master_server: tcsc-ads.tcsckandla.com is not a valid server plase provide help with this issue i am new to veritas netbackup.   RAWS Bulk Upgrade and Update utility

  Hello All,   There have been cases when you have to update the remote agents on the remote clients. Most of us either push install the remote agent or perform the local install of the remote agent . Some time its difficult to use the push install utility or perform the local install when you have to update the remote agent on many servers . So here is the solution for it ,there is a new utility in 12.5 called the Remote Agent for Windows Systems Bulk Upgrade and Update Utility. Its documented in the Administrators guide on page 904. You can run the utility from the install directory of Backup Exec. The utility name is "RAWSBulkUpdate.exe.   You can’t use Tape cartridges till you can’t empty it completely

  Today i would like to share my experience with Tape cartridges which i had with my Tape Library in which(Tape cartridges) i was trying to remove specific images..... Experience I had Veritas Netbackup 6.5+MS windows2003 server and i was expiring specific backup image(s) from Netbackup administration console-->Catalog but when I was trying to use the command "available_media.cmd" i watched that the status still showing its FULL....even I close and open the command prompt so that it can refresh the status and even Netbackup Administration Console as well but i have not got any success... Actually I wanted to keep some images in tape cartridges because some images were important for me that’s why I was not removing all those backup images from the tape via Veritas Netbackup GUI administration Console Resolution Tapes are linear - meaning that they write from the front to the back....
