hello 

i took symantec support for changing my Exchange GRT retention time, as we have accidently given 1 week retention time to our weekly full GRT Exchange backup on disk Then we Symantec engineer change this to one month .

My environment was

Netbackup Master server 7.5.0.2

Netbackup Client (Exchange 2010) version 7.5.0.2

they use the command bpexpdate

i took screen shot also

check this C:\ProgramFile\Vertitas\Netbackup\bin\admincmd\bpexpdate -recalculate -backupid <grtclient_1234567890> -ret 3

OpsCenter is a free product which gives you the ability to monitor, alert and do operational reporting on NetBackup, Enterprise Vault, Backup Exec and PureDisk. OpsCenter server is part of NetBackup and can be deployed on master server for managing a single domain, or independently for managing multiple NetBackup Domains. Hi Guys

Many people and myself many times came through this error

i have also locked the call to symantec and ask on forum , they told me the same.

when i ran the command vssadmin list writers

it gives Microsoft Exchange Writer: Retryable Error

, i have checked many symantec tech notes on it .

and in short i summarised it that we have to reboot the exchange server

Cause

This issue is normally caused because the “Microsoft Exchange Writer” is not working properly. You can verify its status with the “vssadmin list writers” command:

 Hi 

One of our customer wants to give UNC Path in storage Unit in Netbackup,in absolute path name as shown in below screen shot.

So after giving the UNC path for eg \\<server name>\<Folder name>  , when we ran the policy we got error as follows

Error reading Volume information.STS API failed. 
Status 2060013
no more entries.

 
So we contact Symantec Engineer , He resolved this case by going on to Media Server and  give admin credentials to two services, 
  • NetBackup Client Service
  • NetBackup Remote Manager and Monitor Service

Its an excellent Tech Note by Symantec for All Avaialble Videos related to all Versions of Exchange Backups and Restore with Netbackup

I Want to share it because some new users and some new certified Netbackup would find it difficult to deploy Exchange server with netbackup and all documents and videos at one platform

We have one issue of restoring email, and we took support from Symantec Expert Engineer , He sort out and resolved the problem in great manner. So i want to share it with All Netbackup Users who are having problem in restoring the email from Exchange.

ISSUE:
GRT individual email recovery failed
ERROR CODE/MESSAGE:
Status code 2810

ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
Netbackup 7.1.0.4 Master Server on WIndows
Netbackup 7.1.0.4 Media Server whichis Exchnage 2010 Mail Server as well.
Netbackup 7.1.0.4 Mail server another
Netbackup 7.1.0.4 HUB CAS server

EVIDENCE:

Hi 

Always remember to DISABLE UAC (User Access Control) while installing Netbackup Server or Client on any Windows 2008 R2 Machine

As its mentioned in Netbackup Windows Admin Guide: 

                                                                     Note: To install NetBackup on Windows 2008/Vista and

Windows 2008 R2/Windows 7 UAC-enabled environments,

you must log on as the official administrator. Users that are

assigned to the Administrators Group and are not the official

administrator cannot install NetBackup in UAC-enabled

environments. To allow users in the Administrators Group

to install NetBackup, disable UAC.

We are pleased to announce an update to the existing PartnerAssist Transformation Assistance for NetBackup Catalog Manipulation service. This service update includes updated IP artifacts and new automation tools which are utilized in providing support assistance with Catalog manipulation for NetBackup 7.5 software only implementations as well as for the majority of scenarios utilizing NetBackup Appliances. This service is available to eligible Partner Consultant’s for fee, effective January, 25th 2013. Please contact the PartnerAssist team on a per engagement basis to determine the number of service units (hence cost) required. This service is also available to Symantec Consultant’s, on an as needed basis.
