Installation environment:

If you are in the implementation of the process of recovery encountered an error: v-126-3
You need in your "master server" and "boot server" to use ping "master server name", "boot server name" and "client name".
This error is not necessarily a result of not upgraded due to patches, it may be because the host did not modify the hosts file created.

Environment

Veritas Netbackup Server 6.5
OS win2003 R2
Client OS whose backup i willing to restore win2003R2 

Problem

I was facing an error when i was doing a ""prepare to restore"" so i can restore the BMR backup. As i click on ""Prepare to Restore"" i face the error  
[Error] V-126-3 'bmrprep' could not complete the requested operation""

Note:-
I also got a document which was saying me to upgrade Veritas 6.5 to Veritas 6.5.4 and the problem will be resolved

VCB proxy backup server - import of tapes -> can't restore client's backups

Recently I was participating in the annual Disaster Recovery tests. One of my Netbackup servers in DR scope is installed on windows and its performing backups of virtual machines (VCB backup proxy server). Since this server is utilitising on daily basis about one tape I projected that during DR test I will just import all tapes from this server (there should not be more then 3 tapes - last three backup sets). So I wasn't creating any hot backup to tape (yet another tape to be offsited). During DR test I imported all needed tapes. Phases I and II went smoothly, I was able to see clients backups in reports, cool. I ran BAR and configured it to restore first VMware machine client. What was my surprise when after selecting "Select for Restore/ Restore from Virtual Machine Backup" BAR told me that there is no backup available to restore from!! I checked all VMmachines that were backed up through this VCB server - the same. I ...

File Sharing problem in storage foundation 5.0(shares gets disappear after restart PC)

Today i would like to discuss in this BLOG "File Sharing problem in storage foundation 5.0". i am using SFHA 5.0 with Windows2003 Server R2 operating system.

Storage Foundation  configuration

i have two diskgroups with 3 hardisk drives. Below are some detail information

1.) Basic Disk Group = 2 drives = 4 partition
2.) UsersData Disk Group = 1 drive = 2 partitions (from 2 partitions the one partition is SRL logs)
3.) I am using virtual ISCSI SAN

Problem

My 2nd disk group (UsersData Disk Group) has a share folder on its partition and when my PC gets restart my sharing folder gets unshare so i have to re share it again on daily basis when i switch on my PC.

Summary - 9/1/09 User Group Meeting

Our second meeting went very well. It was great to see returning faces as well as new faces at Adesa in Carmel!

19 people attended from 14 different orginizations around the Indianapolis area!

Phil Weingart gave a quick overview of the backup environment at Adesa, touching on design challenges and future projects. We also had two very successful breakout sessions discussing Disaster Recovery and VCB Implementation.

Our next meeting is scheduled for December 8th. Stay tuned for details on time and location!

network read failed (42)

hi
i am facing some problem in veritas netbackup 6.5.2
i have 3 servers which are configured as media server.
now one server with windows platform is not getting backed up from past 2 days
and giving error code 42 network read failed

i checked network settings and host files
ping test from host to server and vice versa.

and i checked some log and in bpdbm log file i found msg that is
db_valid_master_server: tcsc-ads.tcsckandla.com is not a valid server

plase provide help with this issue
i am new to veritas netbackup.

Netbackup 6.5.4 upgrade using Sun patches - IMPORTANT!

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, so that they don't run into the same nightmare as i did when upgrading from 6.5.3 to 6.5.4.. I had a fun 30 hour day getting bounced around the world with support only to go back to my initial suggestion of reverting to a catalog backup. With the addition of the db_marker.txt file and the behavior of the sun patchadd it can cause a nightmare if you are symlinking your db/images to another location..

the following applies if you are installing the upgrade using the patches provided by Sun..

If the following conditions are true, people need to take extra care when performing the upgrade using the Sun patches
• You are symlink’ing <install location>/openv/netbackup/db/images to another location
• And/or you are symlink’ing <install location>/openv/db/staging to another location
• you are upgrading by using the Sun Netbackup 6.5.4 patches (ie 127655-04)
