In today’s business environment IT Professionals need to adapt to changes and opportunities faster than ever. Increasingly so, they rely on their data to run their business functions. The loss of access to that data would not only cripple, but could ruin a company. More IT Pros are interested in virtualization as a way to improve business efficiency, but have legitimate hesitation due to concerns about its impact on the speed of access and recoverability they have to their data.

Virtualization experts from Symantec, Task Force Tips and NAC Solutions discussed best practices for transitioning to virtual environments and protecting virtual data at Symantec Vision 2013. If you missed it, next week is your chance to gain valuable insight from these experts on an On...

IDC's new report has shown that NetBackup Appliances experienced a 149.3% growth year over year at the end of Q1 2013. Symantec outpaced both the industry growth (16.3%) and it's competitors (EMC 8.4% and Qunatuum 2.5%). This is excellent news and I'm happy to share the press release here with you all. I want to thank all the partners and their sales team to help position NetBackup Appliances to the customers. Please remember that we have tools and certified partners available to help our customers to migrate their existing NetBackup Catalogs to the NetBackup Appliance masters. This is indeed an exciting time at Symantec!

Hey Guys,

Remember, status 2 popping up while taking SharePoint backups. I bet you must be .. as these are the really frustrating ones.

Some days back i posted about how to set the spswrapper timeout

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/configuring-spswrapper-timout-registry

Now we can set this value via the tool - sharepoint_check.exe by a single command.

Sharepoint_check.exe -timeout [Value in Seconds]

You shall get the below message.

SPSWrapper Timeout set to X seconds.

You can download the latest version from the below link. This also contains other small fixes.

Hey Guys,

Recently I came across a case where the one of our customer was facing an issue on restore of SharePoint List that contained custom columns.

Before

BeforeCustomCol.jpg

After

AfterCustomCol.png

I tried reproducing it in house but I could not, then I asked for output of spprobe2010.exe, from the output I could see that the customer has upgraded SharePoint to cumulative pack - 14.0.6134.5000.

I upgraded my SharePoint setup to same cumulative pack and tested again and voila!!! The issue is reproduced at my setup. I investigated further and found that there are some underlying SQL changes in the cumulative pack.

The fix to this has been provided in an ET...

An account executive I work with recently asked me for two questions to start discussions with his customers on backup and recovery issues.  Limiting this to only two is a challenge so this post is the first two questions I would suggest.

Two simple questions to ask yourself (or your customers)

1.     How are you positioned for Disaster Recovery?
2.     Do you want to be tape free?

Both of these are intertwined with the trends in the data protection space, driven by  Deduplication appliances and replication.

Let’s hit the second question first.  Tape has its place for longer term retention.  That has not disappeared for most organizations.  “Cloud” based archiving services are starting to...
