Keynote.jpgLast month’s Symantec Vision 2013 in Las Vegas gave you a glimpse into what our plans are during the next year for the company, our customers and you, our partners. Setting the tone for the event was Symantec CEO and President Steve Bennett, who explained that, “We can’t get to where we need to go with evolution. Change like this requires a revolution.” As part of the “revolution”, Steve reiterated that we are making strategic, positive changes that will not only revitalize the company but that will provide you with more opportunities as a Symantec partner. After all, we see partners as critical members of our team that offer broad capabilities...

What a great week at Partner Engage: a fantastic time to meet our partners from across the region at this second stand-alone edition of Partner Engage in EMEA! The two days were filled with even more discussions and interactions than last year, and I have also watched how great an opportunity it was for our partners to exchange views and experience, network with their peers and Symantec, and certainly initiate new business opportunities.  The feedback I have personally received from the partners I’ve heard from has been amazing.  Many of you seem truly excited about the new Symantec strategy and future direction.

Two years ago, we launched the enhanced Partner Program, and Specializations.  What a long way we have all come, I am really proud to see the commitment of our partners, the way they feel empowered with the different initiatives that we have launched: the Yellow Book, the Partner Sales Academies, appliance programs, a new Specialization…...

Everyone knows that having the best tools available can make all the difference in getting things done, as anyone who has ever used a shoe as a hammer can attest to. At Symantec, we are constantly working to create new tools that will improve our partners’ ability to provide Symantec products to their customers, driving profitability and success. And one of our key methods for doing this is through our Specialization program, which gives our partners the opportunity to differentiate themselves from other solutions providers, earn incentives and maximize profitability.

To complement our other 12 Specialization offerings within our partner program, we added a new Mobility Solution Specialization. Because of the enormous pressure being placed on businesses today to allow employees to use mobile devices – including employee-owned smartphones and tablets – this new Specialization is...

Our channel partners have always been on the front lines when it comes to solving problems for businesses, by bringing the right solutions into the workplace. In the next few years, for example, we anticipate a fundamental shift in the use and the safety of the cloud – a future where the cloud is safer than the data center. In this future of secure clouds, employees will leverage multiple complex clouds for storing all kinds of business and personal information and have the ability to seamlessly access this information without worrying about how it’s protected. Behind the scenes, IT will be full of specialized employees, each performing one essential function with the help of the latest solutions ensuring organizations continue to maintain their security posture.

We have some work to do before we get to that point, of course. Right now businesses are dealing with rapidly growing, unstructured information that has no clear ownership and is constantly in danger of...

Last month, we held our annual Partner Engage conference in Baltimore – my first as the new Symantec Channel Chief – and coming away from that event I am filled with a real sense of excitement about the opportunities, insight and experiences we shared there. As you all know, Symantec is in a state of evolution -- transforming, refining and improving products, services and processes that can make a difference to partners and their customers. Steve Bennett, our new CEO, spoke at the event and outlined a strategy we are calling ‘Symantec 4.0’ that will be marked by tremendous new opportunities for our partners. I’ve been with Symantec for eight years – they’ve all been great years – but I am more confident than ever that we as a company are at the precipice of the best chapter yet in our history.

The level of enthusiasm among the attendees at Partner Engage was palpable, as they are witnessing firsthand the changes that are...

The first quarter of our fiscal FY’13 calendar year has been focused on partner engagement.  We have been busy collaborating with our partners, participating and presenting in many events across North America.

We recently participated in XChange Public Sector on June 6-8 in Charlotte, NC.  Over 120 partners were in attendance.  Symantec presented in a total three boardroom sessions to the SLED and Federal partners. In addition, we got the opportunity to have a booth at the Vendor Tech Fair and met the partner’s one on one.

We also held our “Enterprise Partner Advisory Council” meeting on June 6-7 at our Symantec headquarters in Mountain View, CA.  This allowed us the chance to get in front of our partners and learn what is top of mind when partnering with Symantec and how we can work towards bridging the gap.  We spent valuable time going over such topics as...

I am very happy to share that Symantec recently won 2 of the most prestigious awards from 2 of the most reputable publishing houses in the Middle East Region. “Security Vendor of the Year” was awarded to Symantec at the Network World Middle East Awards 2012 by publishing house Corporate Publishing International (CPI). The very next night, guess who won the “Software Vendor of the Year” at the Channel Middle East Awards 2012 by Information Technology Publishing (ITP)?

Symantec, of course!

First of all, I would like to thank our team in the region for getting us to the stage where well-regarded media and organizations clearly see us as an industry leader, recognizing our technology and business...

Like every business, our partners are continually searching for new ways to improve their brand, increase revenue and win the respect and appreciation of their customers. At Partner Engage in October, my recommendation to you, our partners, was to achieve added success by stepping out of your comfort zone to find new angles and methods of specialization to provide quality products and services for your customers. This still holds true, and will not only enable you to drive additional revenue, but will also show your customers that you are not a stagnant enterprise.

So what can you do to continue to step out of your comfort zone? My suggestion is to offer mobile solutions on top of the existing endpoint management solutions you offer to your customers.

As we all know very well, mobile adoption isn’t without risks. In fact, the survey Symantec released today on the state of mobility found that approximately three out of four...
