Partners –Symantec is excited about the growing opportunity in the Small and Midsize Business market.  We are focusing our resources on programs to help support you in increasing demand and driving revenue in that market segment. Last week, we announced an enhanced SMB Specialization, with exciting new financial incentives, advanced SMB-focused technical support, and tailored tools and enablement benefits to help you be successful.

The new program benefits kick in once you have achieved membership in the new program, either in one expertise track, SMB Backup, or the other, SMB Security, or both. All partners are encouraged to achieve both tracks, as the financial benefits increase with your training commitment. The transition period for members of the former Specialization is underway and ends February 17, 2012. Former members have until then to leverage former program benefits and to bring their accreditations in alignment with the enhanced Specialization.

I always look forward to Partner Engage and the opportunity to spend time with our partners.  This year, we've gathered about 300 partners in Chandler, AZ to provide an update on Symantec's product vision and channel strategy.

Symantec is rapidly evolving as a company and Partner Engage gives us an opportunity to share Symantec's vision and help our partners take their businesses to the next level with our solutions.  This year, we're talking a lot about key industry trends—like cloud, virtualization and mobility—and the impact they're having on Symantec and our partners.  My goal is to have everyone here walk away with new ideas around how to take advantage of these opportunities.

Partners – the Symantec Partner Program is in the midst of exciting changes.  In November 2010 we launched the Enhanced Symantec Partner Program and introduced specializations as the foundation of the program.  Now, nearly 8 months later, the transition to the Enhanced Symantec Partner Program is nearing its end: September 30, 2011.  This date is the deadline for you to transition into the new program without losing any benefits you currently enjoy.

Today is a big day. I’m personally very excited to let you know that the public beta programs for Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 and Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 Small Business Edition are now open. Our team has been working hard to make these solutions the best they can be, and we need YOUR help.

Select partners and customers have participated in pre-beta programs since January 2011 and they’ve given us valuable feedback on the implementation, performance and management of the product.  Now it’s your turn to give us your feedback.

According to the sixth annual Ponemon report, 2010 Annual Study: U.S. Cost of a Data Breach sponsored by Symantec, the need for complete protection has never been more urgent – 31 percent of all breach cases involved a malicious or criminal act, and averaged $318 per record, up 43 percent from 2009.  In addition, the number of breaches caused by negligence edged up one point to 41 percent and averaged $196 per record, up 27 percent from 2009.  This steady trend reflects the ongoing challenge of ensuring employee and partner compliance with security policies.
