Today is Earth Day, a day where people across the world come together to celebrate our planet and the need to protect the valuable resources it provides us.

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), “we currently consume 50 percent more natural resources than the Earth's ecosystems can replenish.” Additionally, if we continue to consume the way we do, by 2030 the resources of two planets will not be enough to support our population.

While it may seem that what you do as an individual makes little difference, the exact opposite is true.

Today is Earth Day and the start of National Volunteer Week in the United States. Symantec is celebrating by exploring our commitment to environmental responsibility. Previous posts have explored Symantec's commitment to LEED certification, talked about our participation in Earth Hour, and explained our efforts to minimize our waste stream. Today we hear from Chris Abess, a Symantec VP in the Norton business segment who also serves as the global executive sponsor for the company's Green Teams.

At Symantec, we regard environmental stewardship as both an imperative of responsible operation, and an opportunity to improve our business performance. We therefore have prioritized where we can have the biggest impacts and track key indicators to monitor these impacts throughout our value chain.
