Tuesday, May 6th marks a special day for non-profits in Silicon Valley - Silicon Valley Gives Day! For 24 hours, one website will provide a single donation platform to benefit over 650 non-profits working in Silicon Valley.

As part of Silicon Valley Gives Day, Symantec is matching all donations up to $10,000 to one of our non-profit partners - Techbridge.

Techbridge, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring underrepresented girls in science, technology, and engineering, has worked with over 4,000 girls in grades 5-12 through its after-school and summer programs in the San Francisco Bay area. From tackling...

From climate change to cyber security to employee diversity, corporate responsibility (CR) and sustainability touch every aspect of Symantec’s business. We’ve defined our strategy and are continually working toward our goals to operate as a responsible global citizen. In addition to our dedicated global corporate responsibility team, every day Symantec employees across the world are helping us deliver on this, creating value for both our business and our stakeholders.

We are happy to introduce an ongoing feature of the CR in Action blog – the Sustainability Spotlight - that will profile employees and their contribution to Symantec’s CR and sustainability efforts. Some are members...

Today is Earth Day, a day where people across the world come together to celebrate our planet and the need to protect the valuable resources it provides us.

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), “we currently consume 50 percent more natural resources than the Earth's ecosystems can replenish.” Additionally, if we continue to consume the way we do, by 2030 the resources of two planets will not be enough to support our population.

While it may seem that what you do as an individual makes little difference, the exact opposite is true.

Let’s take your morning coffee cup for example. Did you know that:

  • Every minute over one million disposable cups are discarded to landfill....

A few weeks ago, the CR in Action blog featured an article on Symantec’s sponsorship of the Dare2BDigital conference. Symantec has sponsored and partnered in the Dare2BDigital conference for four consecutive years, but this year for the first time, Symantec also hosted a student workshop, "Catch the Phish and Digital Drama." Marian Merritt, Director, Cyber Education & Online Safety Programs, developed the workshop materials. I led the sessions, together with twelve other Symantec volunteers.

“Tackling climate change is one of America’s greatest economic opportunities of the 21st Century (and it’s simply the right thing to do).” - BICEP Climate Declaration

Last week marked the first anniversary of the Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy (BICEP)’s Climate Declaration – a call to action from leading American businesses, urging the public, policy makers and business leaders to seize the economic opportunity in tackling climate change.

At Symantec, we are convinced that a strong, international coalition of governments, businesses, and civil society organizations is required to effectively address climate challenges. We are therefore proud to be...

For the fourth consecutive year, Symantec sponsored and partnered in the Dare2BDigital conference as a part of its Corporate Responsibility and Diversity initiative. The objective of the event was to provide 7th-10th graders an opportunity to discover the creative and exciting careers that await them in computer science and engineering.

At this year's conference, 200 teenaged girls explored careers in science and technology at this unique collaboration between technology companies, educators, parents and community organizations. The conference met its objective, as the survey results revealed that 99 percent of young women attendees felt that the conference maintained (17 percent) or increased (82 percent) their interest in fields that use...

By Aled Miles, Symantec's Senior Vice President, Latin America and the Caribbean

As the inaugural Symantec Service Corps (SSC) assignment wound down, I had the enormous pleasure of hosting the team for dinner in Arequipa, Peru before they left for home. As you know, this team of ten was selected for Symantec’s first effort at a long-term international service project, spending four weeks applying their professional skills to assist three Peruvian organizations. I know we’ve all been following along on their journey through the Postcards from Peru series on this blog, but I wanted to share my personal observations after the privilege of spending an evening with this interesting and focused team, that had only known each other for 28 days.

I was genuinely...

After four weeks in Peru, the Symantec Service Corps (SSC) team has achieved many milestones, both for their clients and their own personal growth. The team made their final client presentations on Friday, before packing their bags to return home.

As the end neared, they took the opportunity to reflect on what they've learned and how they plan to apply these learnings to their Symantec roles. The team is also sharing some of their extracurricular activities, including rafting trips and futbol games---as well as their first stops when they return home.

Living the Symantec Values in Peru

Halfway through the SSCs' time in Peru,...
