“Tackling climate change is one of America’s greatest economic opportunities of the 21st Century (and it’s simply the right thing to do).” - BICEP Climate Declaration

Last week marked the first anniversary of the Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy (BICEP)’s Climate Declaration – a call to action from leading American businesses, urging the public, policy makers and business leaders to seize the economic opportunity in tackling climate change.

At Symantec, we are convinced that a strong, international coalition of governments, businesses, and civil society organizations is required to effectively address climate challenges. We are therefore proud to be...

Today is the first anniversary of the Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy (BICEP)’s Climate Declaration – a call to action from leading American businesses, urging the public, policy makers and business leaders to seize the economic opportunity in tackling climate change.

At Symantec, we are convinced that a strong, international coalition of governments, businesses, and civil society organizations is required to effectively address climate challenges. We are therefore proud to be signatories of the Climate Declaration, joining approximately 500 companies nationwide to...

For the fourth consecutive year, Symantec sponsored and partnered in the Dare2BDigital conference as a part of its Corporate Responsibility and Diversity initiative. The objective of the event was to provide 7th-10th graders an opportunity to discover the creative and exciting careers that await them in computer science and engineering.

At this year's conference, 200 teenaged girls explored careers in science and technology at this unique collaboration between technology companies, educators, parents and community organizations. The conference met its objective, as the survey results revealed that 99 percent of young women attendees felt that the conference maintained (17 percent) or increased (82 percent) their interest in fields that use...

By Aled Miles, Symantec's Senior Vice President, Latin America and the Caribbean

As the inaugural Symantec Service Corps (SSC) assignment wound down, I had the enormous pleasure of hosting the team for dinner in Arequipa, Peru before they left for home. As you know, this team of ten was selected for Symantec’s first effort at a long-term international service project, spending four weeks applying their professional skills to assist three Peruvian organizations. I know we’ve all been following along on their journey through the Postcards from Peru series on this blog, but I wanted to share my personal observations after the privilege of spending an evening with this interesting and focused team, that had only known each other for 28 days.

I was genuinely...

After four weeks in Peru, the Symantec Service Corps (SSC) team has achieved many milestones, both for their clients and their own personal growth. The team made their final client presentations on Friday, before packing their bags to return home.

As the end neared, they took the opportunity to reflect on what they've learned and how they plan to apply these learnings to their Symantec roles. The team is also sharing some of their extracurricular activities, including rafting trips and futbol games---as well as their first stops when they return home.

Living the Symantec Values in Peru

Halfway through the SSCs' time in Peru,...

As human beings we all have basic human rights that respect our dignity and integrity. These human rights are fundamental principles that, if respected, ensure all can live a life of dignity, free from deprivation and abuse, free to participate in their community, and freely able to express their beliefs.

Unfortunately, in many places around the world, human rights are not respected or upheld, due to a variety of factors including business and economic pressure, corruption, poverty and more.

As a global company committed to positive social impact, Symantec is committed to respecting human rights wherever we do business around the globe. We believe in the importance of upholding human rights, including in our supply chain, for many reasons, including:

  • Human rights principles are aligned with our company’s values, and we have always conducted business according to the highest levels of ethics and integrity
  • Adherence to human rights...

International Women’s Day, which is observed this Saturday, March 8, has been celebrated in the United States since 1909. Since that time, women have continually broken new ground in the technology fields – from Elsie Eaves becoming the first female member of the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1927, to Stephanie Kwolek inventing Kevlar® in 1965, to Susan Hockfield becoming the first female president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2004.

The celebration of International Women’s Day serves as a reminder that we must continuously strive towards full gender equity, particularly in the technology fields.

We are proud of...

Symantec’s Volunteer of the Quarter initiative highlights and rewards those employees who dedicate their time and talents to those in need. We have a long and proud history of encouraging our employees to volunteer. While the driving force of our efforts is largely altruistic, there is even more to volunteering than giving back to our communities. Volunteering makes our company a better place to work, so employees are helping both Symantec and the organizations they volunteer for. Today we are happy to feature this quarter’s Volunteer of the Quarter – Melaney Smith from our Global Security Organization. Thank you Melaney for all you do!

I spent five years of my childhood living at a children’s home, where my parents lived and worked as “house parents” for one of the cottages there.  Most of the children had been removed from unsafe or...
