As we prepare for the release of Symantec’s FY13 Corporate Responsibility (CR) report, this is a good time to provide additional context around our environment performance – where our focus is as a company, how we’re doing and our goals over the next year.

As a company, we are committed to positive social impact and operating with integrity and respect for the environment.  Our environmental strategy includes four major sustainability pillars to lessen our impact on the environment, including green IT,...

Today, Symantec is announcing more than $1 million in grant funding to education-focused initiatives. Education – particularly science, technology engineering, and math education, as well as equal access to education around the globe – is a strong focus for Symantec. In addition to the corporate grants we are announcing today, employees at more than 26 office locations around the world are supporting local education initiatives – volunteering in classrooms, building libraries, acting as science fair mentors, and much more.

Some of these relationships are new ones for Symantec, reflecting our growth in this space and our maturation as a global company. Others are long-standing partners with whom we’ve worked for many years, establishing joint goals and executing programs around the globe. These latest grants give us an opportunity to deepen our engagement with these partners, to more fully apply our resources in terms of employee time and talent, and...

Symantec released its  2012 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report at the end of October. It’s not for any company to make the final judgement on how well it rates in terms of CSR, but you can read independent reviews from environmental analysis firm TriplePundit and Ethical Corporation.

From the top, the report divides into three sections. Our People, which covers how Symantec develops as an inclusive, diverse organisation; The World, tackling how the company minimises its footprint and maximises its positive...

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be featuring blogs from Symantec employees and partners that focus on how they are making a difference. This week, we hear from Jingjing Ren, Software Engineer.

I’m a software engineer at Symantec. According to recent statistics, less than 20 percent of the bachelor degrees in computer science go to women. This means that, even living in Silicon Valley as I do, I’m a member of a very small group of working technical women.

Why do so few girls and women pursue careers in computer science and other tech fields? What makes a...

We generally call community service “reaching out.” However, I’ve learned that it’s actually “reaching in” to better understand our own strengths and weaknesses and learn what’s really important in life. The five years I’ve been volunteering with Akshar...

The Supply Chain team’s involvement in Symantec's environmental initiatives has been evolving since 1994 when we first registered to the ISO14001 Environmental Standard. Since then the journey has been interesting, challenging, and ever changing. Upon reflection when I think about then and now, Symantec as a company has made tremendous improvements to both its processes and approach. This is reflected in Symantec’s outstanding...
