“Tackling climate change is one of America’s greatest economic opportunities of the 21st Century (and it’s simply the right thing to do).” - BICEP Climate Declaration

Last week marked the first anniversary of the Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy (BICEP)’s Climate Declaration – a call to action from leading American businesses, urging the public, policy makers and business leaders to seize the economic opportunity in tackling climate change.

At Symantec, we are convinced that a strong, international coalition of governments, businesses, and civil society organizations is required to effectively address climate challenges. We are therefore proud to be...

Today is the first anniversary of the Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy (BICEP)’s Climate Declaration – a call to action from leading American businesses, urging the public, policy makers and business leaders to seize the economic opportunity in tackling climate change.

At Symantec, we are convinced that a strong, international coalition of governments, businesses, and civil society organizations is required to effectively address climate challenges. We are therefore proud to be signatories of the Climate Declaration, joining approximately 500 companies nationwide to...

For the past week, the United Nations Climate Change Conference has convened in Warsaw, bringing together delegates from over 190 countries hoping to move closer to a global agreement on GHG emissions reduction.

At Symantec, mitigating our impacts on climate change is central to our environmental strategy.

A key way we continue to reduce our impacts is through our focus on green building practices, specifically achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) facility certifications. Earlier this year, I wrote about our achievements in FY13 -- three new LEED certifications, including our first Platinum certification in Culver City, California. We now have...

In its fiscal year 2013, Symantec contributed more than $24 million in cash and software to nonprofits working within its four philanthropic focus areas: science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education; online safety; diversity; and environmental responsibility. Over the next few weeks, we will hear from several of our partners on various projects and programs that Symantec is helping to support. Last month, we heard from Acterra, an environmental nonprofit serving Silicon Valley, and a few weeks ago from Edwin Link, Sr. Director of Academic Success, Arts, and Innovation at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Today we...

By Kelly Shea, Symantec Global Sustainability Project Manager

As we prepare for the release of Symantec’s FY13 Corporate Responsibility (CR) report, this is a good time to provide additional context around our environment performance – where our focus is as a company, how we’re doing and our goals over the next year.

As a company, we are committed to positive social impact and operating with integrity and respect for the environment.  Our environmental strategy includes four major sustainability pillars to lessen our impact on the environment, including green IT,...

Over the next few weeks, we will hear from several of our partners on various projects and programs that Symantec is helping to support. Today, we hear from Alex Von Feldt, program director at Acterra, an environmental nonprofit serving Silicon Valley.

Symantec Corporation and Acterra, a Palo Alto-based environmental nonprofit, are teaming up to install a California native plant garden at Symantec’s Mountain View campus.

The purpose of the project is to provide a lovely garden that provides quality habitat for local wildlife while demonstrating sustainable landscaping practices. ...

As a passionate biker, I always look forward to this time of year when Symantec Headquarters employees join thousands across the nation to participate in The League of American Bicyclists National Bike Month.

Bike to Work Day and Month has become a hugely popular nationwide event to celebrate the many benefits of bike transportation.  As featured in this great Bike to Work Day PSA, ‘Why do you Ride’, biking to work has numerous benefits for your health, your wallet and the environment. For example, for every one mile pedaled rather than driven, approximately one pound of CO²  is saved, and on a round-...
