As a passionate biker, I always look forward to this time of year when Symantec Headquarters employees join thousands across the nation to participate in The League of American Bicyclists National Bike Month.

Bike to Work Day and Month has become a hugely popular nationwide event to celebrate the many benefits of bike transportation.  As featured in this great Bike to Work Day PSA, ‘Why do you Ride’, biking to work has numerous benefits for your health, your wallet and the environment. For example, for every one mile pedaled rather than driven, approximately one pound of CO²  is saved, and on a round-trip commute of 10 miles, bicyclists save around $10 daily....

This month, Symantec is celebrating Earth Day by exploring our commitment to environmental responsibility. Previous posts have explored Symantec's commitment to LEED certification, and talked about our participation in Earth Hour. Today we hear from Kelly Shea, Symantec's sustainability program manager, on the results from Symantec's first global waste audit.

Symantec recently completed its very first set of “friendly” waste audits at local sites across the world to better understand our waste impacts. The audits are conducted according to the LEED-EBOM MRc6: Solid Waste Management...

This month, Symantec is celebrating Earth Day by exploring our commitment to environmental responsibility. Today we hear from Kelly Shea, Symantec's global sustainability program manager, on the successful LEED certification of our 20th office facility.

With buildings accounting for 40 percent of global energy use and over one third of global greenhouse gas emissions, we recognize our responsibility to play a role in decreasing these impacts.

We are therefore very proud to announce that we have just LEED-certified our 20th facility! This certification, for one of our Mountain View, CA buildings, is part of Symantec’s ongoing goal to obtain LEED and Energy Star certifications for all owned or long-leased...

At Symantec, we regard environmental stewardship as both an imperative of responsible operation, and an opportunity to improve our business performance. We therefore have prioritized where we can have the biggest impacts and track key indicators to monitor these impacts throughout our value chain. The pillars of our environmental strategy include data center considerations, conservation efforts, software packaging and delivery mechanisms, and transportation alternatives.

In honor of Earth Day this month, we will highlight accomplishments that demonstrate the progress we are making across these focus areas. From green...

While Symantec’s corporate mission is cyber-security, its survival depends on broader measures of safety – including the long term welfare of its employees and customers. That’s a major reason why Symantec stands tall with 23 other major U.S. firms, including Nike, Starbucks and eBay, with (BICEP) Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy coalition* of companies supporting meaningful federal policy on climate and energy.

Yet with federal progress largely stalled on Capitol Hill, it is the states that have been leading the way on greening our energy and transportation systems. An historic example is California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS). Enacted in 2007, it’s a performance-based strategy to shift our fuel mix to low-carbon sources. It requires a modest ten percent reduction in carbon by 2020. And since it doesn’t mandate a specific technology or fuel, it drives innovation in the free-market, a boon to both the...

Symantec’s 2012 Corporate Responsibility Report explores our commitments to our employees, the world, and your information. Over the next several weeks, we’ll be featuring blogs from Symantec employees and partners that focus on how they are making a difference. This week, we hear from Amanda Davis, Global Systems Compliance Manager.

The Supply Chain team’s involvement in Symantec's environmental initiatives has been evolving since 1994 when we first registered to the ISO14001 Environmental Standard. Since then the journey has been interesting, challenging, and ever changing. Upon reflection when I think about then and now, Symantec as a company has made tremendous improvements to both its processes and approach. This is reflected in Symantec’s outstanding...
