Over the past few months if you’ve visited a Symantec campus you may have noticed employees snapping photos with their morning coffees. What is going on you may ask? A coffee or selfie craze?!

It’s our “One Mug, One Planet” campaign, a Green Team campaign that asks employees to pledge to eliminate their use of paper cups, with the goal of meeting our corporate-wide goal to reduce paper cup usage by 15%, and to achieve 80% waste diversion at all of our audited sites.

At the start of the campaign we set a goal of 1,000 pledges signed across Symantec, and 10% of employees at sites that have opted in to join this campaign.

And we have nearly met our goal with 917 pledges to date!

This month marks the launch of the new environmental lecture series at Symantec, Green Talks. These lectures will provide an opportunity for Symantec employees to learn about external environmental initiatives related to Symantec’s environmental strategy and how Symantec is working to support these initiatives within the company.

The Green Talks will take place quarterly, onsite at our headquarters in Mountain View, and will alternate topics within Symantec’s environmental strategy:

On Earth Day this year, we launched the One Mug, One Planetcampaign to help reduce waste across our operations and encourage all employees to think about the impacts they make both inside and outside the office. Additionally, the campaign supports our corporate-wide goal to reduce paper cup usage by 15%, and to achieve 80% waste diversion at all of our audited sites.

Our goal for the “One Mug, One Planet” campaign is 1,000 pledges signed across Symantec, and 10% of employees at sites that have opted in to join this campaign.

The campaign has been a huge success and since our launch we’ve received 823 pledges from multiple countries across the world, including the United...

This week we bring you a two-part series highlighting activities across our Green Teams. These are just a snapshot of the numerous activities our Green Teams are contributing to every day ranging from volunteering in local communities to spearheading campus-wide sustainability efforts.

Today we begin with a post on our Springfield office’s recent award for sustainable commuting. Following we will bring you an update on the Green Team’s One Mug, One Planet campaign.

Last month, over 200 Symantec employees at our Springfield office participated in the region’s annual Business Commute Challenge (BCC), and helped our office win in the category for the largest sized companies!

The BCC is an annual week-long, friendly competition...

At Symantec, employees are key players in the success and expansion of our corporate responsibility (CR) program. As part of the community relations team, I feel incredibly lucky to experience first-hand the tremendous efforts our employees put forth to support our CR strategy and corporate values both through their jobs and personal time.

It is for this reason the impact our company has through volunteering and corporate philanthropy has continued to grow and expand year over year. For example:

  • We increased recorded employee volunteer hours 23 percent fiscal year over fiscal year. Last year Symantec employees across the globe collectively logged over 31,800 volunteer hours, a 23...

According to a new US Census Bureau survey, the number of people who commute to work by bicycle increased about 60% over the past decade, however bicyclists still account for less than 1% of all commuters.

This increase in biking to work can be partly attributed to groups across the country that are working hard to promote and support biking in their local communities.

We are proud to partner each year with one such organization – the Silicon Valley Bike Coalition - as part of the organization’s annual Bike to Work Day event. This year Bike to Work Day was held on May 8th, and as with previous years, Symantec hosted an Energizer Station where riders stopped by for snacks, drinks, free give-aways, and to chat with fellow riders. We raffled...
