Today is World Environment Day (WED) - a day each year that the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has marked to “stimulate worldwide awareness of environmental issues,” and to encourage everyone to take action to preserve our environment. The day is celebrated by countries, regions, cities, government, companies, and individuals across the world.

At Symantec, environmental stewardship is an integral part of Symantec’s business strategy, both in terms of managing impacts related to the company’s operations and the development of new products and services for our customers. I’m thrilled to share that three executives here at Symantec – May Mitchell, Tricia Atchison and Sue Fossnes – have been recognized by CRN for its 2014 “Women of the Channel” list. CRN’s annual list highlights the accomplishments of female executives within vendor, distribution and solution provider organizations, and the impact they are having on the advancement of the IT channel industry as a whole. Additionally, May and Tricia were selected to be a part of CRN’s “Power 100,” the top 100 most powerful women in the channel.

May Mitchell has helped to champion Symantec’s transformation toward a partner-centric model. As Symantec’s Vice President for North America Marketing, she has taken a market-led approach in the development of new market-pull and market-push campaigns and programs, product roadmaps and enablement tools to support our key priorities. This year, May is helping to lead the...

At Symantec, employees are key players in the success and expansion of our corporate responsibility (CR) program. As part of the community relations team, I feel incredibly lucky to experience first-hand the tremendous efforts our employees put forth to support our CR strategy and corporate values both through their jobs and personal time.

It is for this reason the impact our company has through volunteering and corporate philanthropy has continued to grow and expand year over year. For example:

  • We increased recorded employee volunteer hours 23 percent fiscal year over fiscal year. Last year Symantec employees across the globe collectively logged over 31,800 volunteer hours, a 23...

Pop quiz. Which organization is Symantec’s longest standing non-profit partner?

If you guessed Teach For America (TFA), you’re right. Since 1997, Symantec has supported TFA, a national non-profit that recruits, trains and supports top college graduates and career-changing professionals to commit to teach in under-resourced urban and rural public schools. The partnership brings together two organizations promoting teaching innovation so that all children have access to an excellent education that will help prepare them for opportunities in school and in life. Symantec also specifically supports TFA’s recruitment of teachers from the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Over the course of the relationship...

According to a new US Census Bureau survey, the number of people who commute to work by bicycle increased about 60% over the past decade, however bicyclists still account for less than 1% of all commuters.

This increase in biking to work can be partly attributed to groups across the country that are working hard to promote and support biking in their local communities.

We are proud to partner each year with one such organization – the Silicon Valley Bike Coalition - as part of the organization’s annual Bike to Work Day event. This year Bike to Work Day was held on May 8th, and as with previous years, Symantec hosted an Energizer Station where riders stopped by for snacks, drinks, free give-aways, and to chat with fellow riders. We raffled...

As part of Compliance and Ethics Week, Symantec took a look at the ways in which a strong foundation in ethics helps support the expression of our corporate values, one of which is "set a high bar and seize opportunities to improve." In this post, we take a look at the many ways in which Symantec continues to set a high bar and improve its approach to human rights.
