Q: What do you get when you bring Vice President Joe Biden, Change the Equation and 26 U.S. companies committed to increasing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) literacy together over lunch?

  1. Intriguing conversations
  2. Some leftover pie
  3. A national Commitment to Excellence in STEM with signatory companies pledging to ensure all children in communities across the U.S. have access to high-quality, excellent STEM learning opportunities.

The answer is, all of the above! On Friday, May 16, Symantec joined Vice President Joe Biden and 25 other corporate leaders to sign Change the Equation’s (CTEq) Commitment to Excellence in STEM, a public call to action for a...

According to a new US Census Bureau survey, the number of people who commute to work by bicycle increased about 60% over the past decade, however bicyclists still account for less than 1% of all commuters.

This increase in biking to work can be partly attributed to groups across the country that are working hard to promote and support biking in their local communities.

We are proud to partner each year with one such organization – the Silicon Valley Bike Coalition - as part of the organization’s annual Bike to Work Day event. This year Bike to Work Day was held on May 8th, and as with previous years, Symantec hosted an Energizer Station where riders stopped by for snacks, drinks, free give-aways, and to chat with fellow riders. We raffled...

As part of Compliance and Ethics Week, Symantec took a look at the ways in which a strong foundation in ethics helps support the expression of our corporate values, one of which is "set a high bar and seize opportunities to improve." In this post, we take a look at the many ways in which Symantec continues to set a high bar and improve its approach to human rights.

The very nature of our business – assuring the security, availability, and integrity of our customers’ information – requires a global culture of responsibility. Ethical conduct and integrity are the building blocks of Symantec’s business success, and underpin our approach to corporate responsibility.

As members of the...

Last month, Symantec and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) were joined at the U.S. Capitol by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Representative Mac Thornberry (R-TX) to launch the VOICE website – Victims of Internet Crime Empowered – a comprehensive, trustworthy resource for victims of Internet-related crime and the public at large. The launch of VictimVoice.org is the result of a two-year partnership with the NW3C and delivers on a key focus area of our Corporate Responsibility and Government Affairs Programs to improve resources for cybercrime victims, and to partner with non-profit and government organizations to help prevent other Internet users from falling victim to cybercrime.

Antoine Andrews | 01 May 2014 | 0 comments

Hello everyone! My name is Antoine Andrews and I’m the new Director of Global Diversity and Inclusion for Symantec.

As I’m writing this, I’ve officially been in my new role for an entire eight days and I am loving it! As the Director of Global Diversity and Inclusion, my role is to continue the path forward that the Global Corporate Responsibility Team has laid out to ensure Symantec has the best and most innovative global talent to meet the needs of our customers and drive business performance.

My very early (and I mean very early) observations are that the company has invested heavily on closing the gender gap within our internal talent pipeline and also on the talent of the future, globally. As innovation continues to be a key priority for Symantec, we have to leverage the diversity of all our employees to help us innovate. In my opinion,...

Tuesday, May 6th marks a special day for non-profits in Silicon Valley - Silicon Valley Gives Day! For 24 hours, one website will provide a single donation platform to benefit over 650 non-profits working in Silicon Valley.

As part of Silicon Valley Gives Day, Symantec is matching all donations up to $10,000 to one of our non-profit partners - Techbridge.

Techbridge, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring underrepresented girls in science, technology, and engineering, has worked with over 4,000 girls in grades 5-12 through its after-school and summer programs in the San Francisco Bay area. From tackling...

From climate change to cyber security to employee diversity, corporate responsibility (CR) and sustainability touch every aspect of Symantec’s business. We’ve defined our strategy and are continually working toward our goals to operate as a responsible global citizen. In addition to our dedicated global corporate responsibility team, every day Symantec employees across the world are helping us deliver on this, creating value for both our business and our stakeholders.

We are happy to introduce an ongoing feature of the CR in Action blog – the Sustainability Spotlight - that will profile employees and their contribution to Symantec’s CR and sustainability efforts. Some are members...

Today is Earth Day, a day where people across the world come together to celebrate our planet and the need to protect the valuable resources it provides us.

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), “we currently consume 50 percent more natural resources than the Earth's ecosystems can replenish.” Additionally, if we continue to consume the way we do, by 2030 the resources of two planets will not be enough to support our population.

While it may seem that what you do as an individual makes little difference, the exact opposite is true.

Let’s take your morning coffee cup for example. Did you know that:

  • Every minute over one million disposable cups are discarded to landfill....

A few weeks ago, the CR in Action blog featured an article on Symantec’s sponsorship of the Dare2BDigital conference. Symantec has sponsored and partnered in the Dare2BDigital conference for four consecutive years, but this year for the first time, Symantec also hosted a student workshop, "Catch the Phish and Digital Drama." Marian Merritt, Director, Cyber Education & Online Safety Programs, developed the workshop materials. I led the sessions, together with twelve other Symantec volunteers.

We had three 75 minute sessions that day, with ten to 30 students attending each...

“Tackling climate change is one of America’s greatest economic opportunities of the 21st Century (and it’s simply the right thing to do).” - BICEP Climate Declaration

Last week marked the first anniversary of the Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy (BICEP)’s Climate Declaration – a call to action from leading American businesses, urging the public, policy makers and business leaders to seize the economic opportunity in tackling climate change.

At Symantec, we are convinced that a strong, international coalition of governments, businesses, and civil society organizations is required to effectively address climate challenges. We are therefore proud to be...
