The attached .zip (rename as a .package to open) demonstrates the "throttle" concept in Workflow.

The concept of a throttle in Workflow is basically to slow things down in a tight loop to give other external processing a chance to "catch up".

The flow starts off by declaring a 15-long array and our throttle variable, an integer initially set to 1. Our plan is to pause for 5 seconds for every 5 elements we advance in the array. Inside the loop, we use a "demo" component to represent our processing. Immediately afterwards, we check if our throttle variable is greater than or equal to 5. If less than 5, we increment throttle by 1. If greater than or equal to 5, we pause for 5 seconds, then we decement throttle all the way back down to 1 to start anew.

Hopefully this helps Workflow users of all skill levels to help slow things down a bit where needed.

The release of Workflow 7.5 revolutionizes the concept of community-based documentation by creating component wiki pages for every component included in Workflow. You can find these component pages in the Articles section of the Endpoint Management Community.

As a member of the Workflow community, you can earn Symantec Connect points by adding your knowledge, use cases, and examples to the wiki pages for the components that you use.

First a quick tip to help you sort articles. You can filter the queue by author and isolate only the collaborative (wiki) articles. In the "Authors" drop-down menu, select "SymantecWorkflowTeam" (see screenshot below). The resulting queue displays the articles to which you can contribute.

We saw the following error.  

 
Database integration strategy failed due to an error: Invalid object name 'dbo.sysdatabases'.
System.Exception: Database Configuration could not be installed correct. Installation cannot be continued
   at Symantec.Workflow.Installer.InstallerManager.Run()
 
The resolution of this was to open SQL Manager, and then follow the steps below:
 
1.  Click Security >Logins
2.  Right Click on the Account the is performing the install
3.  Make sure it's default Database is set to Master.
4.  Click OK
 
 
You now should be able to run the installer successfully.

Many user have expressed dismay at seeing duplicate date information when they generate custom reports in Servicedesk.  The simple answer is that when generating the report they are including too much information.  In addition to the standard process and incident fields, they are also electing to show All Tasks.  This automatically adds duplicate date information to the report, and is unnecessary.  Simply remove that from the report, and you will have the output date formatted that you require.

We have tested the solution overriding implementation of the igtbl_dispose() function inside Form.aspx project file and it seems to work.

Happy SysAdminDay!

I'm kicking myself for nearly letting this one sneak by without my notice! But how can I let the day pass without giving a shout out to all the Connect members to toil away and don't get nearly enough recognition?!

This day isn't as widely known as International Talk Like a Pirate Day but it's still a day that's dear to my heart because it's one day out of the year that recognizes YOU! Without you, I wouldn't have a job, so keep up the good work!

Go ahead, take tomorrow off!

Sometimes incoming emails are not processed correctly by ServiceDesk 7 and error messages stating: "Thread was being aborted" appears in sd 7 logs.

Cause: By default email monitor project when deployed to iis works 90 seconds and then terminates.

Solution: You should increase the timeout of the Email monitor webservice. In order to do that in email monitor project go to "Resources" tab and find web.config file. Open it for edit and add the string: httpRuntime executionTimeout="number of seconds" and then deploy the project. We increased the timeout up to 100 minutes so our string looked like: httpRuntime executionTimeout="6000". After that the error disappeared.
