If you use rdeploy as imageing tool for windows 7 or server 2008 you may get an error saying 0xc000000e or 0xc000000f . If you google the error you normally get solutions saying alternate bootmgr to c:
This will not work for an image deployed with rdeploy. You have to set the drive to d:  Both examples will work dependent of how many partitions you have in your win7 image

X:\windows\system32\BCDEDIT /set {bootmgr} device partition=c:
X:\windows\system32\BCDEDIT /set {default} device partition=d:
X:\windows\system32\BCDEDIT /set {default} osdevice partition=d:

or

X:\windows\system32\BCDEDIT /set {bootmgr} device partition=d:
X:\windows\system32\BCDEDIT /set {default} device partition=d:
X:\windows\system32\BCDEDIT /set {default} osdevice partition=d:

You may run this manually after booting in winpe or make a script to run in winpe from the ds consoll or as a step 2 in your deployment image job.

This may be showing up on Connect soon, but if Joel doesn't post it here explicitly (and I didn't check... blush), a new KB has been created documenting the changes to Inventory tables from Inventory 6.1 to 7.0.  You can see it for yourself in AKB53699.

It appears that the custom dataclass creation module in SMP 7.x contains the option to set a dataclass to handle multi-row entries, however with my customer we could not get the tick box to effectively turn an existing data class to multi row.

So in the end we resorted to export/import with a manual edit of the xml (using notepad++) to set the multirow parameter to true instead of false.

I will try to replicate this as soon as I am back in the office, but right now I am wondering if during the design it was considered that updating dataclass should not be allowed (thus changing from single to multi-row or the opposite be ineffective any times after dataclass creation).

Having said that we tried to create a new dataclass but this failed for some unknown reasons (the dataclass never appeared on the custom dataclass section).

And a final word on the brief report from my customer: custom classes not created via the custom class wizard (imported for example)...

Hello fellow Altiris users...
In the last few weeks, Symantec has retired (well, mostly...more on that later) the old Altiris Licensing Portal we all know and (sometimes) loved.  Now you must download your licenses through the Symantec Licensing Portal.  Maybe I'm just not that sharp, but I had a heck of a time trying to download my Altiris licenses recently.  So a bit of an FYI, after sending a frustrated email to support, I received the following response:

When logged into the license portal select the "License Management" tab from the home page in the license portal. Scroll down to where it says "Search Your License Catalog". Click on the link where it says "Advanced Search". Then scroll down and select the correct customer number from the list. This will list all available licenses. Click "View Details" to view the license information and on...

Are you ready to upgrade to Altiris 7.0?

An important question to ask when considering upgrading, we don’t need to just rush into installation.  Too often, want to upgrade to the next best thing before all pieces have been put together, but should we even upgrade then?  Things to consider:

  • Is my environment ready?
  • SQL 2005 is required, do you have the licensing to upgrade or will that be an additional purchase?
  • Do I have current maintenance on my Altiris products where I will be able to upgrade?
  • Technical Knowledge?
  • Do I have the technical knowledge to troubleshoot if something breaks or will I constantly have to call support?
  • Maybe a professional technician who has experience with this install would be better
  • Do you have custom reports or code which could be broke which is business critical?
  • SQL Experience is a plus when migrating the database to...

Our very fist South Africa Endpoint Management User Group Forum has come and gone and I would personally like to thank the following people for attending:

Gerdien Hay from Standard Bank
Jaco Nortje from Standard Bank
Darren Beatu from First National Bank
Marius Bekker from FNB
Nick Fraser from Discovery
Eugene Jacobs from First Technology who was invited to discuss Altiris 7 implementation experiences.

I would also like to thanks the Marketing Team for hosting.

Even with the small number of people that attended, I think the meeting was a success. I would love some feedback from the attendees about the value that they got from the meeting. It became very informal with us all sitting around discussing Altiris with a good glass of Merlot or Chardonnay at hand. Much of the conversation revolved around the implementation of Altiris 7 and the experiences that were encountered. I provided the group with a high-level overview of the...

In case anyone missed it, Symantec quietly released the "R13" update to Solution Center last Friday afternoon.  This includes updates for the NS itself, as well as updates for Inventory Solution, App Metering, Inventory Solution for Servers, Task Management, and Monitor Solution.  For all the details, see AKB 50726.  I've loaded it on my test box and so far no problems.  Here's hoping 13 is a lucky number!
