As suggested by the title I recently had a problem with MS revoking updates. It seems simple enough, but even though those updates are marked as disabled in the Altiris Database, the Zero-Day Patch workflow still tries to download them. This causes all kinds of problems because when the workflow can't download a patch it crashes. If you are like me you don't want to manually create and manage patches. So what do you do?

1. Figure out what database you are using. This seems simple enough, but if you have dealing with Legacy like we were it can get a little silly. CMDB is the default.

2. Check the correct tables in our case Altiris-2014. I jumped onto our SQL server and ran the following QUERY.

SELECT
TOP 1000 [Guid]
,[Enabled]
FROM [Altiris-2014].[dbo].[ItemActive]

Migration: A migration is when you install the latest version of the IT Management Suite solutions on a new server, and then migrate the data from the earlier ITMS solutions to the latest version of the application.

Upgrade: An upgrade is when you install the latest version of ITMS on the same hardware, server operating system, and database.

You must migrate the Notification Server 6.x or 7.0 data to either Notification Server 7.1 SP2 or Notification Server 7.5. After migrating the data, you must first upgrade to either ITMS 7.1 SP2 MP1.1 or ITMS 7.5 HF6 depending on the path you choose and then upgrade to ITMS 7.5 SP1.

Hello all,

Today I ran into the above mentioned problem whilst trying to perform a clean install of ITMS 7.5, so I thought I would share what worked and what didn't.

Windows 2008 SP1 R2 with SQL 2012 SP1.

SQL was initially configured for Windows Authentication.  When SIM failed, I manually created the database to no avail.

I then changed to mixed authentication and changed the SA account (as I obviously didn't know what the original one was) via the UI.  Unfortuantely, the SA account had the same problem.

 

What worked was running the following query:

USE master
GO
ALTER LOGIN [sa] WITH PASSWORD=N'NewSAPassword', CHECK_POLICY = OFF
GO
ALTER LOGIN [sa] ENABLE
GO

 

This allowed SIM to create the database and begin the installation phase.  Once ITMS 7.5 was installed, and the 9 hotfixes (required a rebot beforehand), I opened the Database Settings page and...

The following query will list the contents of all item folders found within the console:

SELECT vi1.Name As Folder,vi2.Name AS Item
FROM vItem vi1
JOIN vItemFolder vif ON vif.ParentFolderGuid = vi1.[Guid]
JOIN vItem vi2 ON vi2.[Guid] = vif.ItemGuid
ORDER BY Folder,Item ASC
--WHERE vif.ParentFolderGuid = 'folderguid'
--WHERE vi1.Name = 'foldername'

If you wish to use one of the WHERE clauses, then make sure you remark (--) the ORDER BY line.
