Performance degradation can happen due to multiple reasons. The main bottlenecks that would affect performance are:

  1. Memory
  2. Disk IO
  3. CPU
  4. Blocking
  5. System resource contention
  6. Application design problems
  7. Queries or stored procedures that have long execution times

This is a frequently asked question on forum about required IIS7 settings for Package Server configuration and there are how-tos available. But I though to put it in a simple manner in form of image which much easier in understanding. Where “red circled” are only not required components

Hope this would be helpful.

The primary key of the ICON table should have the extension as .exe or .ico, else the icon will not display properly.
For example if the extension is abc.js then the same javascript icon will be shown in this case. If it is .txt then notepad icon will be displayed. Whatever be there in the [Binary], that does not matter if there is any other extension apart from .exe or .ico

The only time a ServiceDesk 7 license is consumed is when both the following conditions are met:

  • The Process View page for an existing ticket is opened in any of the ServiceDesk ITIL processes i.e. Incident, Problem, Change, Release and Knowledge Management.
  • The User who is logged on is not the Primary Contact (this allows End Users to open and review the status of tickets they have submitted without consuming a license).

Submitting a ticket, looking at reports, searching and reading items in the Knowledge Base does not consume a license.

When a license is consumed it is held for about 5 minutes after the Process View is closed.

Bootvis.exe is a performance tracing and visualization tool that Microsoft designed to help PC system designers and software developers identify performance issues for boot/resume timing while developing new PC products or supporting software.

Please note that Bootvis.exe is not a tool that will improve boot/resume performance for end users. Contrary to some published reports, Bootvis.exe cannot reduce or alter a system's boot or resume performance. The boot optimization routines invoked by Bootvis.exe are built into Windows XP. These routines run automatically at pre-determined times as part of the normal operation of the operating system.

This tools is very helpful to do your daily tasks. Create your own context menu's.

FileMenu Tools allows you to customise the context menu of Windows Explorer. And it lets you:

  • Add some built-in utilities that perform operations on files and folders.
  • Add customised commands which run external applications, copy/move to a specific folder or delete specific file types.
  • Configure the "Send to..." submenu.
  • Enable/disable commands which are added by other applications to the context menu.

Have you already migrated to Office 2007?
And are you still finding your way around the new looks and feel?

I find it very hard and I always have a fight to find what I need. Until I found this program.
It is a real help.
The starter edition does exactly what I want and it is for free also.
Get away from the new looks and feel, and customise Office 2007 with the Office 2003 looks.

RibbonCustomizer™ is an add-in for Microsoft® Access™, Excel®, Outlook®, PowerPoint® and Word 2007. It allows you to customize the Ribbon User Interface with only a few mouse clicks! Microsoft did not include that ability in Office 2007, but with this add-in you are no longer stuck with a static User Interface!

The Starter edition includes a 30 days free trial of the Professional one.

  • Get Classic UI tabs for Excel, PowerPoint and Word 2007
  • Use up to three pre-defined customizations in the form of .RIBX...

I could see that many Altiris Operators always open NS Console first, which is not always needed.
You can launch Resource Manager directly when you seek for particular computer using such link:
where <SERVER> stands for FQDN or IP Address of your Notification Server.

In Find Resource dialog specify as many details as you can an all computers matching your criteria will be listed:

Click on selected computer to open Resource Manager, and work with details you look for.

The same way you can search for Users, Packages or whatever else you need.
(List may vary...

With the current large disks it is a huge task if you need to find something. I found a very cool tool that really helps.

"Everything" is an administrative tool that locates files and folders by filename instantly for Windows.
Unlike Windows search "Everything" initially displays every file and folder on your computer (hence the name "Everything").
You type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed.

"Everything" only uses file and folder names and generally takes a few seconds to build it's database.
A fresh install of Windows XP SP2 (about 20,000 files) will take about 1 second to index.
1,000,000 files will take about 1 minute.

Best of all, It is freeware. If you use it in a professional environment and you like it, you could consider a donation to the developer.
