In the last few days I faced a problem with Helpdesk and Connector Solutions. I have imported some assets from external source using Connector solution and wanted to use these assets in my Helpdesk solution.

The problem I faced was that the new assets were imported with Asset Type (Asset). Hence, the Helpdesk system was not able to view it since the Resource Types list in the Admin menu does not include the (Asset) as an entry.

To solve this problem, I decided to change the asset type of my assets into a type that is supported by Helpdesk, like (Computer). But, I don't have Asset Management Solution to use it to change the asset type.

So, I had to run the below script on the SQL database to change the asset type. After I run that, all assets types are changed to (Computer) and I can see them in the Helpdesk Solution.

Most of the time, after installing and properly configuring Workflow, the ability to publish developed applications is intact and works well.  Recently, while attempting to publish a workflow project to the webserver, the publishing process appears to complete correctly, and the files were copied to the correct location.  But when opening the browser and attempting to run the application, it would not run.  And further research proved that the workflow virtual directories were not appearing in IIS.  

After some troubleshooting efforts, it was determined that the Web Site ID was not set correctly in WorkFlow.  This probably occurred as a result of the default web-site being removed.  To fix this, the Web Site ID must be configured in Workflow to match the Workflow Web Site ID in IIS, and the steps to resolve this are outlined below:

Some may have noticed that any Macintosh computer name containing an apostrophe is listed incorrectly in Resource Manager.

This is actually a function of the Mac OS X operating system. It creates a hostname from the name specified in System Preferences/Sharing by removing apostrophes and changing spaces to dashes. See the following chart for more information.

Using Helpdesk Console 6.5 Supposedly workers can add new queries by modifying an existing query or creating your own SQL expressions. The Clone icon brings up the New Query page pre-populated with the properties of the selected query. This lets you easily create a new query based on the properties of an existing one. When my workers attempt to clone a query they get an error message saying they do not have access to clone a query. All of the workers have level 2 security access inside the helpdesk console. All belong to AD group with local admin access on the server. Where is the security settings for changing queries or being able to post new articles for review in the knowledgebase.

We are pleased to announce the release of Deployment Server 6.9 SP3 into the beta cycle. We anticipate the beta cycle to last approximately 5 weeks.

Outlined below are some of the new features for this release:

DAgent

  • Use customdata.ini – The user has the ability to have DAgent report only those NICS which they want. It will filter the NICS depending upon its description and MAC Address.
  • Right-click uninstall - In the Console when user right-clicks on the computer, under Advanced tab and clicks on the “uninstall agent” Dagent will be uninstalled from the client computer. This facility is only provided from the console side.

Notification Server 6.5 SP3 + R11
Recently encountered an old problem after running a console repair and a repair of the Notification Server.  I was no longer able to drill down on the CMDB locaitons created for Asset Management under Manage > Asset and Inventory > Resources > Organizational Types > Location.  The hierarchy of locations created was often 4-5 levels deep, going from North America > State > City > Office > Floor.  In this particular case I was unable to drill down below the first level "North America"', to make use of the sub locations. When I would click on the + sign, it would just spin like it was trying to process the request and it would never come back with an error or timeout in any way.  Initially we suspected there was an issue with the 6.5 console since we were able to drill down on the locations in the 6.0 console fine.  After doing some...

Apart from Symantec products and processes, why can not we have ideas that can change the way we do things.

I have got an idea here that is going to save lot of time and money for our organization.

According to Microsoft the design goals for Windows XP on a typical consumer PC are:

  • Boot to a useable state in a total of 30 seconds
  • Resume from Hibernate (S4) in a total of 20 seconds
  • Resume from Standby (S3) in a total of 5 seconds

I work for an organization which has over 1000 employees. Most of the employees are complaining about the time that a laptop/desktop is taking to boot to Windows. We are also concerned on the same. We had a meeting today and discussed about the new and ongoing issues in our company that are affecting the business. One of our discussion topics is, how to bring down the bootime and how to increase the performance?
