Do you want to know which client agents are available for Mac? The Mac agent is available for the Altiris Notification Server, supporting versions 10.3.9 through 10.5.x. Solutions available for managing Apple's Mac computers include the following: Inventory, Software Delivery, and PC Anywhere. The Deployment solution doesn't currently offer a client for Mac. Altiris says that they are working on adding Mac support to a lot of their products. I sure hope that the Deployment solution is one of them. Also, I hope that they add the capability of being able to use a Mac to run an instance of the Deployment Solution. If everything goes web-based like most of the products seem to be headed in that direction, it would work on a Mac too. Hopefully it happens. If you know of any other Altiris products that have Mac support, please add comments about it. Thanks.

I have had issues with the HP Elitebook 8530P machines and I wanted to share the resolution I found:

To resolve this issue, you will need to use Windows PE as the PreOS, add the latest driver for the Intel card and add some disk access command line switches.

1. Go to Intel's website and download the Windows Vista driver for the Intel 82567LM-3 network card:

Due to limited memory, installing a Ghost client on these devices will fail. 1-click virtual partition boot media tends to fail, as well. Here is a method to backup and restore to an iGel Thin Client:

1. Create a Standard Ghost Boot Package using PC-DOS on a USB flash drive.

2. Boot to that device; the boot order will need to be changed to allow booting to that device.

3. Choose Local > Disk > To Image to backup, or choose Local > Disk > From Image to restore.

Note: The USB flash drive used will need to be large enough to accomodate the Ghost boot package and the image.

Ghost Console Clients will not be able to connect to the Ghost Console if the PIX firewall is blocking access to the multicast group ID address of 229.55.150.208.

Configuring the PIX firewall to allow the clients to multicast to the multicast group address 229.55.150.208, and configuring the firewall to allow the Ghost Console to send unicast UDP traffic to the clients will resolve this.

Alternatively, using the Ghostcast method with either the switch -JADDR=<serveripaddress>, or by entering the server's IP address after entering the session name will work. This bypasses the need for a multicast communication for client identification.
