Error message windows usually contain number codes that sometimes is hard to understand the real meaning.
I found a nice app called Error Messages for Windows , a free tool that can help you find out the meanings of Windows error codes and messages. This tool contains the complete list of Windows error codes and their correspondent description. It also lets you display and print all of the error codes and messages defined for your version of Windows.

If you have software programs that produce numeric error codes now you can find out what they really mean.

For organizations that want to temporarily prevent installation from Windows Update, Microsoft has released the IE10 Automatic Update Blocker Toolkit.

This tool allows to disable automatic delivery of Internet Explorer 10 and also provides an unblock procedure that allows IE10 to be installed through Automatic Update.

Microsoft will distribute Windows Internet Explorer 10 as an important update through Automatic Updates for Windows 7 SP1 and higher for x64 and x86 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and higher for x64.
This Blocker Toolkit is made available to those who would like to block automatic delivery of Internet Explorer 10 to machines in environments where Automatic Updates is enabled. The Blocker Toolkit will not expire.

Supported operating systems: Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

I've been asked this question several times, so I thought it might be worth blogging it.

You are probably aware that a load balancer is required if you need your Symantec Workspace Streaming environment to be highly available, scalable, robust and all that good stuff. Now, when you do setup a load balancer, you need to make sure it has been setup correctly with all the necessary configurations implemented the way you intended it to be. Check out the connect article where it talks about configuring load balancer with Symantec Workspace Streaming.

After you think you have configured it all well, the moment of truth is when the users use. Or should that be the moment of truth? To avoid any escalations and embarassment, ideally you should test these configurations. Ideally, the following 5 functionalities should be tested.

Health check of the nodes...

A few weeks ago Andy and I discussed on giving a partner presentation on a webinar. The amount of attendees grew pretty fast and with over 225 subscribers it promised to become a great webinar.

It was a honor and a pleasure to be the first to present on a new series of webinars that Symantec organises about Symantec Workspace Virtualization. During the presentation we got a few good questions and I hope everybody got the answers they were looking for.

After my presentation Erik Hughes presented the new version of SWV with code name Chrysler. As a beta tester of the new product I was looking for some good answers, and Erik gave them.

After all it is good to attend these webinars as they do not only give you some good insight in the new stuff in SWV, but Symantec offers you the possibility to ask your questions and to get the answers you are looking for. I can only recomment everybody to join these webinars and not only hear Symantec talk, but also hear partners...

I don't know how I missed the previous events, They are an outstanding way to interact with others that are implementing the same technology or for those of you that haven't made the leap, YET, to get your feet wet.

ErikW had a great presentation on the amazing things his company DinamiQs is doing. I've read hundreds of his posts here but never realized the amazing things they are doing. Congratualations!

Eric Hughes gave the lowdown on all the new 7.5 (Chrysler) features. That concise slide with an overview will be a great help.

Andy thanks for hosting these and thanks for the call to give me a heads up! Sorry I couldn't get the OK to give a presentation. I couldn't hold a candle to Erik's 1,000,000 desktops anyway!

Whoever asked about Desktop Support removing virtual apps, feel free to contact me for the details arond the Windows Installer keys that need to be modified to prevent this.

One piece of feedback, maybe we...

I attended my first BriForum this week and it was quite interesting. If you are not familiar with this conference, it is a vendor neutral event focused on application virtualization, desktop virtualization, VDI, etc. It was held in Chicago at the McCormick convention center and I'm guessing had around 500 attendees and at least 30 vendors showcasing their wares.

There were 3 days of sessions presented by experts from various companies. Most of the sessions were focused on best practices rather than a specific vendor. There were also sponsored sessions where vendors could pitch their products. Overall, I think it was a very good event.

The most popular topics were VDI (good, bad, and the ugly) and BYOD. The opinions expressed in these areas vary greatly and I enjoyed hearing different perspectives. Some say that VDI is just a dream with big promises that do not justify the cost. Others claim that VDI has huge benefits and is the future.

One of the more...
