VMWorld 2010 is right around the corner! This is an exciting conference for Symantec Endpoint Virtualization and we hope you'll be stopping by to say hello while you're at the conference.

We've got lots of technical sessions to share information with our community, as well as a booth where you can drop by and see our products live in action and talk with product experts about the challenges that virtualization addresses. We want to hear your stories as well, and find out what you're doing. Of course, a technology conference doesn't have to be all about technology, so we're throwing a party for our customers, have a game show planned, and of course will be giving away lots of cool prizes.

Join us for the Symantec Super Session
SS1006: Wednesday, Sept 1 at 1:30pm in Room 134 (Moscone North)
The Last Mile: Virtualizing Business-Critical Applications
John Magee, VP of Product Marketing

Managing 45,000 emergency room visits and 7,200 inpatient discharges per year used to generate a lot of paperwork for Holyoke Medical Center. Using an endpoint virtualization solution from Symantec to streamline access to personal workspaces, the center’s 150 doctors are using a new electronic medical record system.Symantec solutions are saving the hospital 10 minutes per doctor per day, adding up to more than 6,250 hours a year reclaimed for patient care

As with the rest of the Connect communities, Endpoint Virtualization will have a newsletter of it's own containing the most interesting information that has appeared in the community in the previous month. Anyone remember the old SVS Newsletter? Well if you do, then you know what I'm talking about - you won't want to miss an issue! But you will if you don't subscribe! It's simple. Go to your user profile and click on the "Newsletters" tab (see? not rocket science), then check the box next to "Endpoint Virtualization", finally click "Save Settings" and you're done!

One note - occasionally our newsletters end up in your spam folder (imagine that!) I set up a filter in my email client that makes sure everything from Connect@symantec.com goes to my inbox. I work here, it seemed like the right thing to do!

Sign up now and Happy Reading!

UPDATE!! We've been toiling busily over the past few weeks, testing and tweeking code, then testing some more. It's time to pull back the curtain and and introduct the newest member of the Connect family - the Endpoint Virtualization community. With all the testing we did behind the scenes, there is bound to be some surprises here and there (I've already found a few) and over the next few days we'll be sprucing things up. If you see something that doesn't belong here or looks a little odd, send me a private message and I'll take care of it.

Thanks for your patience and welcome to the new community - I'm baking everyone cookies!

RF Ideas is a Vision sponsor and should have a great demo in booth 22.  They provide the card reader and ‘sonar’ system that’s used with Symantec Workspace Corporate in healthcare for HIPAA and auto-locking of workstations.  Or really any other environments where users share a workstation or are ‘kiosking’ (yes, it’s a word), like a retail counter.  Our full Endpoint Virtualization multi-machine healthcare demo of SWC will be running in their booth with all the kit, which integrated completely into our single sign on solution.  Stop by and test sonar based logoff!

Start with Symantec Workspace Corporate 6.1 MP3, we have started to expand the functions of our proximity card reader technology.  I use the PcProx cards from RFIdeas, and this post may only apply to these specific cards, but I hope it helps someone in the future. You will need to download the PcProx Card Configuration Utility and connect your card reader to your machine. When you run the configuration utility you will see and Advanced Tab and you will need to click this tab. On that tab you will see a Software Developer Kit Mode section and you will need to click in the Filter Mask Field. You will then need enter the following in the field.

0000000000000000IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

This gets the card reader ready to use with MP3.

You will now need to add a registry key to have the...

Okay, okay, so I might have been focusing more on the Endpoint Management side of things but, for those who are interested, you can find all the virtualisation information you need on the following website.

The Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering blog has  announced the system requirements for Microsoft Office 2010. In Office 2010 System Requirements post (Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering, The official blog of the Microsoft Office product development group) there are some information interesting to know for new or upgrade MS Office 2010 installations.

Follow an extract from the most rilevant part of  Office 2010 System Requirements article:
Can I use Office 2010 on the same hardware I’m using to run Office 2007?

In most cases, yes! CPU and RAM requirements for Office 2010 are the same as for Office 2007, so if your computer meets the Office 2007 system requirements, you can run Office 2010. A...
