For everyone that creates Virtual layers and know the pain that implies the fine tunning to support the complete feature set of the virtual versions of the applications, there is a new product which was designed to help you in this painful task.

SpyStudio is an Application tracer which shows and interprets calls, displaying the results in a structured way which is easy for any IT professional to understand. SpyStudio can understand the resources that an application uses, track down errors, detect malware and create application layers for virtualization.

SpyStudio has a trace comparison tool which is useful for identifying problems in virtualized environments. You can obtain two samples: the native version of the application and the virtual version which has the problems. Using the 'Compare traces' feature, you can see what is missing in the virtual environment. SpyStudio is the user-mode complement of Process Monitor.

This article uses popular statements done by the people selling Cloud Computing to explain what cloud computing is and most of all is not. This includes, but is not limited to, VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure).

Although Cloud computing is far from the Holy Grail it is said to be, I do believe it is the way to go. A big reality check however is in order. That is why I use the most popular advertisement slogans to give my opinion on the matter.

Even though I do not believe this is the only truth, it is a way to view Cloud Computing in any and all forms. You of course are allowed to make up your own mind. Please do, even. But do consider the given statements and the truth behind these statements.

Are these really the reasons you want/need Cloud? Then I would highly advise you to think again.

Then again: maybe the reasons are valid. Cloud Computing does offer interesting possibilities. The article in no-way truly debunks Cloud Computing as a solution, it...

Customers who use Symantec Workspace Virtualization can choose between the Standard Version or the Pro Version that includes streaming. Between SWV and SWV Pro you can also use SMART. And there is a new version available that you can use to centraly manage your applications, and give the end user some control on his layers like activate, de-activate and reset.

The new version can be downloaded from our website or you can send me a message and I will ensure you get a version.

Just like SWV, DinamiQs SMART is free for home and personal use. In the world of VDI DinamiQs has set new standards for speed, efficiency and end-user experience. Part of the DinamiQs VDI stack is S.M.A.R.T., which has developed into a full fledged Desktop and Software management application.

The S.M.A.R.T. software helps end-users access those applications that they are entitled to. S.M.A.R.T. allows self-service and self-repair of these –packaged applications....

Symantec Workspace Streaming is excellent technology when used in conjunction with VDI desktops.  You can stream applications to a non-persistent VDI image on demand.  One of the interesting issues that comes up in a non-persistent environment is the application "goes away" at the end of the session.

We have added the ability to reclaim application licenses when the machine logs off.  To enable this functionality add the following to your AppStreamCfg.txt file:

PURGE_LICENSES_AT_LOGOFF=true

Vbscripts are not currently natively supported as Wise Composer event scripts but composer created packages are capable of running a script via the wscript/csript engine.  The following how-to article documents how to set up your event scripts and your vbscript to work correctly without the need to 'wrap' it within a batch file:

You wonder, where is the new version of SVS Multitool?

Well, it is called SWV MultiTool now.

Are you willing to beta test? Will you be an active beta tester? Then send me a message and we'll send you the latest beta.

Kind Regards, FrankB
