UPDATE!! We've been toiling busily over the past few weeks, testing and tweeking code, then testing some more. It's time to pull back the curtain and and introduct the newest member of the Connect family - the Endpoint Virtualization community. With all the testing we did behind the scenes, there is bound to be some surprises here and there (I've already found a few) and over the next few days we'll be sprucing things up. If you see something that doesn't belong here or looks a little odd, send me a private message and I'll take care of it.

Thanks for your patience and welcome to the new community - I'm baking everyone cookies!

DinamiQs S.M.A.R.T. agent. is downloaded hundreds of times already and I received various emails with updates and suggestions, and after reading and evaluating these, we improved DinamiQs S.M.A.R.T. agent in various ways.

Now DinamiQs S.M.A.R.T. supports all versions of SVS and SWV 32 and 64 bit versions and enables administrators to give users with limited permissions access to the layers for activating, de-activating and resetting layers.

But we added a complete rewritten Logonhook that also works on Vista and Windows 7. Now DinamiQs S.M.A.R.T. only shows layers that an enduser has permissions for. So if the enduser has no permissions for a specific application, even when the application is available on the computer there is no way that the enduser will be able to activate the application. This can be achieved by using the Symantec SVS user admin or with the DVS management console.
Fully Active Directory based application permissions and even full import...

I found on TechNet Blog a nice collection of some free Microsoft e-books that are available in PDF and XPF format. They cover different areas, Visual Studio, SQL server, Windows 7 and Office 2010.

For Symantec Workspace Virtualization (SWV) 6.1 SP4 we’ve changed our default file package format from VSA to the new XPF package.  While VSAs will still be available as an Export option for the time being—XPFs bring numerous benefits to not just SWV but Symantec Workspace Streaming (SWS) so the whole suite as a whole.

The reason for this change in format is we wanted a single package type that could be used in SWV or SWV without any additional modifications so, in other words, if you have an XPF you can import it into SWV or load it into the streaming server as is.

What it is
XPF, or Extensible Package Format, is the new package format going forward for the Workspace Suite.  It replaces VSAs and Streaming Snapshots but not VRAs, VPAs, Tracking Packages or Upgrade Packages.

From a virtualization standpoint there’s very little change over VSAs:  SWVadmin and SVScmd both behave the same, regular and...

This will be a brief post but I gather it could interest a few of our SWV customers that are still running McAfee in their environment.

One of my customer is encountering an odd problem: whenever Internet Explorer 8 is started a pop-up message appears with the following details (translated from French by me, so it could show slightly differently on an English system):

Error Window title: "McAfee Autoupdate: updaterui.exe - Component not found"
Error message: "The application could not be started because iertutil.dll cannot be found. Reinstalling the application could resolve the issue"

The Internet Explorer 8 layer effectively contains the ierutil.dll, however McAfee doesn't seem to find it.

Also when the Internet Explorer 8 layer is set to "Hide from Operating System"  Internet Explorer can start without problems.

We have an open case, but I'm on holiday for the...
