At Nektra we have done a performance comparison of Virtualizing IE6 on W7 in VMWare ThinApp and Symantec Workspace Virtualization.

You can read the full article in our blog: Benchmarking IE6 Virtualization: VMWare ThinApp vs. Symantec Workspace

We use SpyStudio to compare ThinApp and Workspace Virtualization performance. Both Symantec and VMWare highlight the use of application virtualization to run legacy web applications. There is a huge number of mission critical web applications that only run correctly on Internet Explorer 6 and while companies may be able to afford the cost of migrating applications to modern browsers, they cannot afford even a short...

After a very cool demo at VMworld VirtualStorm shocked the VM people.

Running over 450 VM's on each host and still having a very great response. Actually these 450 VM's could be used by users without seeing any latency or experiencing unresponsiveness. The images run a small script that generates some load. It simulates end users and preforms some tasks.

With the Cisco USc and the EMc next gen storage we are really doing some cool demos.

VMware told us that we would not be able to go over the border of 320 images on each host, but we reach 450 without any problem.

Thursday on the last day we are going to stress the environment to see how far we can go.

Can we go over the border of 512 on each host?
Can we go over 3000 managed VM's in VirtualCenter?
How will the hardware do?

If you are at VMworld, take a look at it.
We start at 2 PM.

If you're not there? Then keep on my blog. We will record it and put it on Symantec....

My goal is to create a USB memory key to use in case of emergency. Recovery computer from virus, hard disk crash, Bsod, or other issue, where the only solution is a manual operation. Many times I had to find the right software utility to complete my USB Swiss Army Knife.

Prerequisite to create a complete software collection to use on USB memory key is the portability and possible the freeware license.

Somewhere on the internet, I found several utilities, for example I have described some of these in my previous posts on Juice.

Create a single layer for Adobe CS3 through Windows command prompt by doing the following.

Open SVS Admin Console. Click on File > Create New Layer > Install Application > Give Layer Name > Single Program Capture and browse to C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe. This will launch Windows Command Processor.

When the Windows Command Processor window opens, SVS will start capture mode. At that point either drag and drop setup.exe file for Adobe CS3 into the Windows command processor or browse from within CMD window to the location of setup.exe for CS3 and start the installation process. Choose which applications from CS3 you want to install.

Once the installation process for Adobe CS3 is done, click Finish.

Important: Do not close the Windows Command Processor window.

Go to Start > All...

New: Major Gui Redesign
Fix: Rename layer
New: Layer Tooltips

How Does it work:

When starting it checks if you're a Administrative user and allows the program.
It also checks if you're an Corporate user, and will switch off some options.
It'll check if you are using Altiris Virtual Software Solution V2.1.2083 or higher, lower and it will tell you to update with the possibility to click on a Link towards the download at Altiris.

Here Goes:

Activate Layer
Deactivate layer
Reset Layer

Do you have a Virtual Application you want to share with your friends or colleagues? But you're not sure if any private information is given to them also?

Don't you want to distibute your layers to your environment in a clean state?

Make them smaller to ensure lower bandwidth usage?

Did you just Capture a new Virtual Application, and you want a clean export?

Here's your solution!

With (Portable) Slim Layer Exporter you can export your Layers in a clean and small state. Your userdata (Registry/Disk) won't be included in the Exported Layer.

Download it here.

P.S. U3 Version is also available.

Version v1.1
Added: Extensive exporting error reporting.
