Application compatibility testing plays major role in all the migration projects. When it comes to migration from Windows XP to Windows Vista/7, we need to check if the application is compatible on the targetted operating system.

ChangeBASE AOK  is one of the automatic compatibility testing tools. AOK will check the application to see if there are any issues in migrating the application onto Targetted operating system. ChangeBASE relased a LITE version of the application available for testing purposes. Following is the link to try it:

One step behind from Microsoft. In fact last month announced that the new Operative System Windows 7 will be released in Europe without Internet Explorer. Now the new proposal is offer a choice to customers about the internet browser. 

Extract from Windows 7 and Browser Choice in Europe article :

Shortly after new Windows PCs are set up by the user, Microsoft will update them over the Internet with a consumer ballot software program. If IE is the default browser, the user will be presented with a list of other leading browsers and invited to select one or more for installation. The Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 has been released for x32 and x64 systems. This Release supports new hardware devices and additional software improvements.

In the previous release was available only 5 languages (English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish), see the post Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Released , now this package the service pack supports 36 languages.

Do you have some problems to identify the right hardware components ?  I found a brilliant Computer hardware Chart made by a member of Deviantart (~Sonic840) that shows in a large jpg file various types of plugs, ports, sockets and RAM.  Really interesting to see the right name for computer ports and plugs.

Microsoft has realesed the Internet Explorer 8 MUI Pack for Windows Server 2003 SP2.  The Internet Explorer 8 MUI is a set of language-specific resource files that may be added to the English version of Windows with the OS MUI pack and Internet Explorer 8 installed. The Internet Explorer 8 MUI allow users to view the user interface (UI) in a different supported language. This also allows large corporations to roll out the same worldwide image by using a single install job.
Internet Explorer 8 MUI pack for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 is available for download as two MUI packs.

If you want to know if your computer is ready for the new Microsoft Windows 7, there is a tool called Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Beta, released from Microsoft that help you to perform a check on your computer and give you the answer.

As described in the Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Beta , Brief Description :
Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor scans your PC's system, programs and devices to check if it's able to run Windows 7. After a few minutes, the report will let you know if your PC meets the system requirements, if there are any known compatibility issues with your programs and devices, and will also provide guidance on your upgrade options to Windows 7.

Please note that is required the NET 2.0 Framework.

Microsoft has realesed the latest version of Internet Explorer 8 Language Packs for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. Language files can be used to localize the IE8 package.

The Internet Explorer 8 Language Packs install language specific resource files, allowing users to view the user interface (UI) of Internet Explorer 8 in a different supported language.

As the slogan says "Find better Windows, Mac, Linux and online applications" , the AlternativeTo website collects thousands of applications in many different categories , security, graphic, office productivity, backup and other tools.

Create a single layer for Adobe CS3 through Windows command prompt by doing the following.

Open SVS Admin Console. Click on File > Create New Layer > Install Application > Give Layer Name > Single Program Capture and browse to C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe. This will launch Windows Command Processor.

When the Windows Command Processor window opens, SVS will start capture mode. At that point either drag and drop setup.exe file for Adobe CS3 into the Windows command processor or browse from within CMD window to the location of setup.exe for CS3 and start the installation process. Choose which applications from CS3 you want to install.

Once the installation process for Adobe CS3 is done, click Finish.

Important: Do not close the Windows Command Processor window.

Go to Start > All...

For all IT Admins interested in Sysinternals tool, there is an alternative to download individually each tool. The Sysinternals Suite is also available on Technet.

One ZIP file that contains all Sysinternals programs with only few exceptions (like BSOD screen or NotMyFault tools.)
