Application Name: DOSBox

Application Vendor: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/

Application Version: 0.63, 0.65

What OS was the VSA capture performed on: WS2003R2x32

Import from VSA tested to work on different machine: N

List of OS versions VSA was tested on: N/A

Capture hints:
You might want to have DOSBox and a frontend for it (like D-Fend) running in the same layer. To do that just install and use c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe and run the DOSBox installer then the frontend installer. Also, you might want to consider using a datalayer for all your old dos programs.

Capture Mehtod: Single Process Capture

This application is nice for a couple of reasons. First, it is one of the easiest development environments to learn for beginners. Also, Dev in my opinion is the easiest IDE for small- to medium-sized projects. Dev C starts up after the install process. This allows for you to modify the development environment before ending the capture.

DLC(Data Layer Creation) is a nice tool that will help you create an appropriate data layer.

Versions: 6 and 7

Must be captured in global capture prior to agent build 1345. All later builds will capture properly in single program capture.

No known limitations of the program once captured.

Note: Some FTP downloads will be downloaded into the layer, so if the CuteFTP layer is deactivated, the FTP download will disappear.

From Altiris Wiki

Crystal Reports 9

I just tried to Install Crystal Reports 9 and I get a lot of errors that tell me it can't register dll's. The main interface window will come up but it's not functional at all.

Crystal Reports XI

Application Version: XI - evaluation

What OS was the VSA capture performed on: WinXP SP2

List of OS versions VSA was tested on: 2.0.1393

Capture hints: I have used just the installation package, no further updates.

Crimson Editor 3.7

Capture Method: Single Program Capture

Seems to work well. The best part about this application being in a layer is that the file associations are also captured in that layer. To move those associations into the Read only section, do the following after settings them.

  1. Disable the layer
  2. Open the advanced layer editor
  3. Go to the registry section (Second tab)
  4. Move the classes section to from the write area of "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes" to the read only area of the same location. Simply drop the sub-key that you are dragging on the software sub-key of the read only area.

(Since the layer editor is real time editing, there is no save/apply button)
