Things to watch for

  • It should work fairly well by creating a new application layer but just be careful of corporate firewalls.

Application Name : Alcohol 120%

Application Vendor : Alcohol Soft

Application Version: 1.9.5.3105

What OS was the VSA capture performed on : Windows XP Pro SP2

Capture Method : Single Process Capture

Import from VSA tested to work on different machine (Y/N) : N

Alcohol 120% uses a SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD) layer to storage devices - similar to other access layers used by other programs (eg. ASPI from Adaptec, or standard SPTI from Microsoft). Alcohol 120% will not work without SPTD.

By default SPTD is not removed from a system after the uninstallation of the dependent software to reduce the risk of disruptions with other applications that may use it. The presence of SPTD on a sustem may explain why importing this layer has been sucessful on some machines, yet has failed to run on others (where SPTD was never installed).

Capture Type: Single Program Capture

Plays like a charm.

Virtualized App Guy | 30 Nov 2008 | 0 comments

Version: 5.1

Capture Mode: Single Program Capture

Before Build 1343, Single Program Capture puts files in the base. Re-tested and passed on build 1348

Current Issues:

An install path of more then about 90 char's will cause certain parts of the install to error. Please note that this is not SVS, but the actual install that is having the issue.

DLC(Data Layer Creation) is a nice tool that will help you create an appropriate data layer.

Versions: 5, 5.02, 5.5

Capture Mode: Single Program Capture

Be aware that upgrades to an existing layer will leave previous versions behind in the layer. This means that if you upgrade from 5.0 to 5.5, then 5.0's file structure will still exist. Any previous version's files can be deleted without issue. If you don't delete an upgraded layer's previous version, shortcuts and other items will expose the previous version's structure.
