We started with Appstream seven years ago with the vision of providing managed applications on non-managed (personal) computers.  Over the years the packaging got easier and the offline streaming got faster.  I have always wanted an easy way of seeding our student computers with the books and apps that are available on our server.

It sounded like the next version will finally give us the ability to provided those packages from other storage sources other than our server.  We use multiple virtualization products for providing VDI to mobile endpoints but I'm excited to see a convergence between our application virtualization server and the virtual workspace servers.  This combination should finally give us a great solution to an education byod environment.

Thanks for the webcast guys. As a personal user (trying desperately to get SWV introduced into the work environment) it is interesting to see how the product has matured from v6.1 and v7.5. "Off box" repositories is a nice step forward from a support and flexibility perspective. That is something I can use straight away at home. Combined with the licence management features and the internal sales pitch is almost pre-written. I'm looking forward to the final release and suggesting SWV, again, as a solution for the company I'm with.

Some session feedback - Q&A sessions were great and I agree with EverythingVirt about introducting ourselves before asking questions simply to add some context. Nice to have the opportunity of real-time interaction with knowledgeable people answering. A piece of constructive criticism moving forward for Symantec: while I appreciate there are commercial aspects in having a webcast sponsored by a Symantec partner it would have...

A few weeks ago Andy and I discussed on giving a partner presentation on a webinar. The amount of attendees grew pretty fast and with over 225 subscribers it promised to become a great webinar.

It was a honor and a pleasure to be the first to present on a new series of webinars that Symantec organises about Symantec Workspace Virtualization. During the presentation we got a few good questions and I hope everybody got the answers they were looking for.

After my presentation Erik Hughes presented the new version of SWV. As a beta tester of the new product I was looking for some good answers, and Erik gave them.

After all it is good to attend these webinars as they do not only give you some good insight in the new stuff in SWV, but Symantec offers you the possibility to ask your questions and to get the answers you are looking for. I can only recomment everybody to join these webinars and not only hear Symantec talk, but also hear partners and customers talk and...

I don't know how I missed the previous events, They are an outstanding way to interact with others that are implementing the same technology or for those of you that haven't made the leap, YET, to get your feet wet.

ErikW had a great presentation on the amazing things his company DinamiQs is doing. I've read hundreds of his posts here but never realized the amazing things they are doing. Congratualations!

Eric Hughes gave the lowdown on all the new 7.5 features. That concise slide with an overview will be a great help.

Andy thanks for hosting these and thanks for the call to give me a heads up! Sorry I couldn't get the OK to give a presentation. I couldn't hold a candle to Erik's 1,000,000 desktops anyway!

Whoever asked about Desktop Support removing virtual apps, feel free to contact me for the details arond the Windows Installer keys that need to be modified to prevent this.

One piece of feedback, maybe we should introduce ourselves when asking/...

I attended my first BriForum this week and it was quite interesting. If you are not familiar with this conference, it is a vendor neutral event focused on application virtualization, desktop virtualization, VDI, etc. It was held in Chicago at the McCormick convention center and I'm guessing had around 500 attendees and at least 30 vendors showcasing their wares.

There were 3 days of sessions presented by experts from various companies. Most of the sessions were focused on best practices rather than a specific vendor. There were also sponsored sessions where vendors could pitch their products. Overall, I think it was a very good event.

The most popular topics were VDI (good, bad, and the ugly) and BYOD. The opinions expressed in these areas vary greatly and I enjoyed hearing different perspectives. Some say that VDI is just a dream with big promises that do not justify the cost. Others claim that VDI has huge benefits and is the future.

One of the more...
