Open Letter to EMC EmailXtender Customers

Today, EMC announced SourceOne, another replacement for its email archiving product EmailXtender – the third in five years. It is version 1.0 of a brand new product offering limited interoperability with existing EmailXtender archives and Documentum. We believe EMC customers deserve better, which is why Symantec is offering EMC EmailXtender customers a way to quickly and easily migrate to the world’s #1 email archiving product, Enterprise Vault.

Migrating to Enterprise Vault offers the following advantages that EMC has yet to deliver:

•    Integrated SharePoint Archiving to reduce storage and E-Discovery costs.
•    Integrated File Archiving to shrink backups, reduce storage and enable rapid e-discovery.
•    Proven E-Discovery tools to meet longstanding legal requirements and compliance regulations.

Why wait for EMC to deliver...

Now that we've shipped V8 we thought you'd want to know our service pack schedule for 2009, the dates are of course tentative but on the whole we stuck to our advertised schedule throughout 2008 and would hope to do the same in 2009. For the V8 SPs we would hope to advise of exact release dates nearer the time.

Happy New Year and all the best for 2009.

Now that the holidays are out of the way, welcome back  to what will no doubt be a roller coaster year as if 2008 wasn't enough for us all.

Anyway - onto the topic of this post.

We are pleased to announce that during the holiday period , we formally released Enterprise Vault 8.0 (EV 8.0) and it is now available for download via the FileConnect portal ; you can also order a media kit from there as well.

So your first task is to login into the portal and download the software and documentation. The EV team are alive and well and continue rocking all over the world!

Contrary to a few hopeful blog postings predicting the early demise of the EV product team and the end of Symantec’s focus on the archiving market’s #1 product, we’re pleased to re-affirm that there was zero impact  to the overall EV team by the recent Symantec organisational changes. This includes the EV product team, engineering, product management, marketing, field enablement, consultancy and support; in fact we have recently added numbers to some of these teams as demand continues for EV to outstrip the general market growth!

The EV team is one of the main reasons why it is the archiving market’s #1 product because within it we have  the following groups of dedicated & hard working people.

  • 180 product development staff

  •  A field enablement team...

We have just released a new technote which explains the recommended method to support a new minor release of Domino (e.g. 7.0.x, 8.0.x, etc) as an Enterprise Vault 'target mail server for archiving only', prior to full certification of the new minor release by the Enterprise Vault certification team. When there is a new a minor version of Domino, the Enterprise Vault certification team may need to undertake an extensive testing effort. This is  to ensure that all supported functionality of that Domino server version as both an Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway and a target mail server continue to operate as expected. If you need to upgrade your Domino mail servers to the latest minor release before we have completed our certification process , then read the following technote to understand how this should be done to keep within the boundaries of what will be supported by Symantec.

Here's the link to the in depth technote...
