Without doubt, many of our customers are moving their EV environment to a Virtualised platform. This partly due to the obvious cost & operational benefits but also because customers are planning their upgrade cycles through from V8 to V9 and onto V10. In fact if you check our pre-reqs for running V10 in our compatibility guide, you’ll see that we support only Windows 2008 R2 or later. So yes, moving from an old x32 hardware platform to a new x64 virtualised environment is proving to be a popular route for many. However, a frequent question we’ve heard is “do you have any best practice guidance for deploying EV on VM Ware” which has been something we’ve been working to address.

Therefore we’re pleased to announce the availability of an excellent new, long-awaited, and much anticipated Best Practice Paper on...

Now that EV10 is generally available we're pleased to say that you can now learn more about it using the Tech Center resource. These provide many bite sized modules (too many to list here) on the various V10 features; and best of all they are all available completely free.

So head off to the following link to get learning.

Some of you might already have heard of our Techcenter offering, it's been around for a few years now and it's a great resource for both new and seasoned Enterprise Vault admins. We used to offer some free modules but recently all the modules have been made available and are ready for you to go download and watch. Obviously these are all V8 & V9 focused but in the fullness of time there will be V10 modules but either way why not go and check these out because you never know you might be able to learn something new & wonderful :)

Here's the full URL http://techcenter.symantec.com/ecampus/enterprise?siteName=sena&courseNo=DP6002

I've made a shorter URL which is easier to remember http://tinyurl.com/evtechcenter

Happy eLearning

We're pleased to announce that 9.0.2 is now available, you can get the software update via FileConnect. If you're not sure about how to use FileConnect or need further information then please follow this technote which should answer most of your questions.

With regard to 9.0.2 - this is a hotfix roll up release with no significant new features to mention. But if you want to read about all the various fixes and improvements then please refer to the release notes & documentation which are available from the support site.

Or here's a direct link to the release notes.

Happy Upgrading

As the end of year zooms towards us I thought I'd mention a couple of useful Blog posts that some of my colleagues published recently which certainly  deserve to be highlighted.

Rob Wilcox recently wrote a great article entitled "Enterprise Vault 9.0.1 - Which client should I install" that discusses the key considerations around upgrading to the latest EV client code.

Karl Woodrow also published a great article, a short but sweet piece entitled "Exchange Server 2010 SP1 Self-signed certificates back on the menu in EV 9.0.1"  this is perhaps self explanatory but highlights the fact that...

We're pleased to announce that Enterprise Vault V9.0.1 (SP1) is now available & as always you can download this latest release from the Fileconnect portal (see below).

V9 was first released in September most notably to support Exchange 2010 and this was followed by a client only release of 9.0.1 in late October to support Outlook2010. However, the latest V9.0.1 package comprises a server & client update which means for those of you who normally wait for the first SP before upgrading then you will want to check out the release notes and start planning your upgrade.

You might also want to subscribe to the Late Breaking News for 9.0.1 support note to be alerted of any major...

A question we have started to hear more frequently is "how can I move my EV server(s) to new hardware". I guess this shouldn't surprise anyone because more and more customers are moving to Windows 2008 R2 and adopting the x64 platform throughout their server estate. Another reason to consider this is that when we release V10 next year, Windows 2008 R2 will be a pre-requisite. Therefore if you’re thinking of upgrading to V9 in the near future, you might also want to think about upgrading to Windows 2008 R2. This could mean that you’ll need to but some new hardware or even perhaps move EV to a x64 Virtual Machine.

Whatever your plans you will probably soon start to think about how to actually move EV to a new server. Previously I would have referred to you to the Disaster Recover section of our admin guide which is a great starting point. However, I’m pleased to say that we now have a new document out which deals with...

Essential Links

Earlier this year I published an article with details about where to find the most asked for documents & other useful info. This links is still something I give out to customers, partners and internal folks at Symantec. The article should really help you to help yourself and I've just updated it to reflect the new locations since our support site had a revamp.

So if you haven't read the following post before, go check it out, you'll find links to all the essential documents you need to read, such as the  compatibility guide, performance guide and many others.

Digests

Also I've heard that some of you are missing the Digest links which used to be a useful reference to see what recent technotes have been published for a given...

I've heard from a few customers/partners that they missed the fact that we had released EV8 SP5 so I'd like to rectify that with this post.

We're sorry about this because (a) We normally try to post here to remind your all (b) the transition to our new SymWise system has meant that not all of you got notified via the EV Digest notifications (I will deal with that in another post shortly)

So with all that said, we're pleased to say that we shipped V8 SP5 a few weeks ago. This isn't a release that you'll find any specific new features in because it's a HF roll up SP but you can get the release notes and browse through the changes using the following link.

As with all our new releases & service packs, you can download them...

We released V8 SP4 a few weeks ago and a major new feature of SP4 is Move Mailbox Archive - here's a bit more detail about what this provides.

Move Archive allows the Enterprise Vault administrator to move the contents of Domino and Exchange mailbox and journal archives to new or existing archives in other vault stores. For mailbox archives, the destination archive can be the same Enterprise Vault site, a separate site, or even a site that is located in another Enterprise Vault directory. Journal archives canonly be moved within the same site. The version of Enterprise Vault on the source and destination servers must be at Enterprise Vault 8.0SP4 or later. If an archive contains items that are under legal hold, such as from Discovery Accelerator, the archive cannot be moved. Once all legal holds have been removed, the archive can then be moved as desired.

We have also published a feature...
