Today Symantec will announce the release of Enterprise Vault 10.0.2 which includes major changes to our SharePoint agent.   EV has supported SharePoint since 2002 and has always provided storage optimization by replacing documents with 6 byte shortcuts that are completely seamless to the user.

In EV10.0.2 we extend the agent’s capabilities to also archive custom lists, blogs, wikis, discussion boards and several other list types.

This new functionality expands the solution in three ways:

  1. Further storage optimization – Now EV for SharePoint can replace attachments from supported list and social media with shortcuts dramatically reducing overall SharePoint storage
  2. Address Site Proliferation – When I speak to SharePoint Administrators, one of their primary concerns is addressing site proliferation.   Sites often long outlive their usefulness yet no one wants to be...

** Update

Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 is available from today. See announcement here:

As you have all no doubt seen, Microsoft have recently lifted the lid on its next version releases for Exchange Server, SharePoint Server and Office products. With preview software hitting the streets earlier this month we have heard from lots of our customers asking when we plan to support these releases and in which version.

We have been participating in the partner Technology Adoption Program (TAP) for these products for some while now and progress has been going well.

Therefore to answer this question simply we are planning an Enterprise Vault 10 service pack release which will...

Here’s an interesting dilemma: What would you rather do – get your teeth cleaned at the dentist, or process a search request for your in-house Legal team?

On Monday, June 11, Symantec conducted a survey on the exhibit show floor during Microsoft TechEd North America 2012 in Orlando, FL. There, over 100 qualified respondents were asked a total of 18 questions surrounding their use of Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Exchange Online/Office 365.

Surprisingly – or maybe not – over a third of respondents would rather get their teeth cleaned at the dentist than process a search request on email for their in-house Legal team.

We learned from survey respondents that being able to search for archived and un-archived content within Exchange and beyond (45%) was one of their top eDiscovery goals. By indexing all information stored in the archive, Symantec...

Information is the lifeblood of every company, no matter what size or industry. The amount of information a company must manage grows by the minute, and can quickly become overwhelming if not properly managed. As a result, whether performing an eDiscovery request, enforcing retention policies or working to meet corporate compliance requirements, archiving is a must. Done right, archiving allows for efficient and cost-effective handling of data. Yet too many companies are incorrectly using their back-up and recovery software for archiving and eDiscovery.

This Thursday, June 28, join Symantec archiving and eDiscovery experts for a discussion on the reasons why you need archiving, as well as ways to implement and manage an effective archiving strategy. We invite you to actively participate, ask questions and share your thoughts. Mark your calendars - we look forward to chatting with you!

We know that we have a lot of customers running Enterprise Vault 8 or earlier but are you aware of all the great new features, reliability and performance improvements our newer versions include?

To help you understand the features and benefits we've created an easy to read document to help you appreciate why upgrading makes good business sense.

The document lists the new features by key benefit area, including “Get ready for the future", "Reduced total cost of ownership", and "Improved end-user experience". After you’ve read about all the improvements, we're sure you'll want to start an upgrade today!

You can download the document from here:

As a kid, I always thought it’d be cool to reach my hand out of the plane window and touch a cloud. I know – it’s impossible. But I still wanted to do it. So it’s somewhat ironic that I now “touch” the cloud every day as I spread the word about how Enterprise, our hosted archiving solution, can help organizations meet mailbox management, compliance and eDiscovery requirements.

That’s why I’m excited to invite our customers and partners to “touch” the cloud at our upcoming user extravaganza - Vision 2012. At this year’s event, Symantec product managers, Chris Moreau and Steve Buccola, will give attendees a close look at the cloud when they lead an interactive demonstration of Enterprise

During this session, Chris and Steve will walk attendees through...

By now, hopefully, you've seen that Enterprise Vault 10.0.1 has been released:

This minor release contains a number of exciting enhancements but none more so, in my opinion, than the unified Outlook add-in. To see why this is worthy of such praise I wanted to highlight 3 big changes in the client:

1. Single installable client (per language)

There is no longer a choice of lite or full client packages to install against Outlook. Both lite and full client installers have been consolidated into a single "unified" client which contains the capabilities of both clients. The only remaining choice, when installing the Enterprise Vault client on your desktop infrastructure is now which language...
