There has been alot of traffic recently around Enterprise Vault support for Outlook 2011 so I thought I'd take this opportunity to discuss this topic.

Outlook 2011 is a new email client from Microsoft that improves and enhancements the previous Microsoft Mac based email client aka Entourage. Outlook 2011 was made generally available on the 26th of October and demand is expected to be high, especially for those already using Entourage as their main Mac email client.

As a result we are already hard at work generating an Enterprise Vault client that will be compatible with this new email client and efforts are well underway. As Outlook 2011 is a brand new client from Microsoft, and not an Entourage upgrade, work will take longer than just certifying a release however I expect to be able to communicate our plans to make this client available to market in the near future.

In the meantime I'd like to hear abour your plans for Outlook 2011 and timescales...

I’m very pleased to announce that we will very shortly be making available a production Enterprise Vault client for Outlook 2010.

The EV 9.0.1 client will be made available earlier than the full 9.0.1 release (which is scheduled for release later in the year) and will be released on the 22ndOctober 2010. On this date the EV 9.0.1 client will be uploaded to Symantec FileConnect and will be available to download from Monday 25thOctober onwards.

The early release 9.0.1 client will be fully supported for production use and will offer support for Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 (32bit and 64bit). It will be supported against EV Server versions 8.0.4 and 9.0. It will also offer English language support only (full internationalisation will only occur in time for the full 9.0.1 kit release later in the year). More information, including full documentation, will be included in the client kit.

Over the coming weeks I'm going to be writing a series of blogs detailing the enhancements to Enterprise Vault File System Archiving in v9. While these may not be big headline grabbing features, I think our existing customers will find them extremely valuable and beneficial. After all, the enhancements that we have delivered for FSA in v9 have all been directly driven by customer requests and feedback.

I'm going to start off by talking about placeholder migration. Once you have deployed FSA, the ability to easily manage the archived content and to be able to move placeholders around (without recall) for things like hardware refreshes or share re-organisations is key. Now some of you may be thinking that doesn't FSAUtility already have the ability to move placeholders? The answer is yes it does, but it has specific use cases associated with it, which are not appropriate for some of the more common migration tasks.

Let me explain...

Moving forward …
As you may have seen, today (Sept. 7) Symantec announced the release of Enterprise Vault 9.0 and the NetBackup 5000 appliance.  On the Enterprise Vault side, our customers have been very eagerly awaiting both the Exchange 2010 SP1 support (roughly co-sync with MSFT!) and the new Discovery Collector offering.  In the world of data protection, I’ve heard great things from our beta testers and early adopters of the NetBackup 5000 … especially for speed of configuration, ease of deployment, and performance.  What, performance too?  Yes, it’s ripping fast!
Of course, if you are reading this you’ve probably seen the press releases (Enterprise Vault 9.0, NetBackup 5000) already, so I won’t rehash the specifics here.
Instead, let’s...

Hello folks,

A message from Stephanie Guaman in Symantec's User Centered Design (UCD) Group. We're doing a user study focused on our products for legal audiences interested in and familiar with E-Discovery processes.

There's a reward, beyond just the satisfaction of telling Symantec what to do and how to do it :-)  See the attached invite for details. And thanks for helping, in advance, from the UCD and Enterprise Vault teams.

We released V8 SP4 a few weeks ago and a major new feature of SP4 is Move Mailbox Archive - here's a bit more detail about what this provides.

Move Archive allows the Enterprise Vault administrator to move the contents of Domino and Exchange mailbox and journal archives to new or existing archives in other vault stores. For mailbox archives, the destination archive can be the same Enterprise Vault site, a separate site, or even a site that is located in another Enterprise Vault directory. Journal archives canonly be moved within the same site. The version of Enterprise Vault on the source and destination servers must be at Enterprise Vault 8.0SP4 or later. If an archive contains items that are under legal hold, such as from Discovery Accelerator, the archive cannot be moved. Once all legal holds have been removed, the archive can then be moved as desired.

We have also published a feature review document...
