We’re currently working very hard on full support of Microsoft Exchange 2010, at a level that our 13,000+ customers are used to and expect from us. Nevertheless, the questions are coming thick and fast about when and how Microsoft Exchange 2010 will be supported. We therefore decided that it’s time for an update, and here’s what we can tell you today:

  1. We plan to release full support for Exchange 2010 SP1 with Enterprise Vault 9.0
  2. We plan to run a Beta program for EV 9.0 beginning in March this year*
  3. Following that, we plan to run a First Availability program prior to General Availability
  4. Enterprise Vault 9.0 is currently on schedule to be available in the second half of this year**

There are...

Late last year, Gartner published it's latest (and third, if my memory serves me correctly) Marketscope for the E-Discovery segment. It was put together by a highly respected team of Gartner analysts, including Debra Logan, Whit Andrews, and John Bace. Symantec was rated as a "Strong Positive" in this Marketscope for the E-Discovery segment.

Obviously we're very proud of all the teams here at Symantec and within our partners, who've contributed so much to Symantec Enterprise Vault™. I'd like to take one more chance to thank all those people right here and now. We're also very happy that over 13,000 customers are deriving value from their investment in Enterprise Vault.

A few things changed with 2009's Marketscope, and I thought them worthy of note and perhaps a quick discussion. Firstly, this Marketscope focuses purely on software vendors. It doesn't matter if the software is delivered as installable or as some kind of...

You'll find information about:

  • Planning
  • Implementation
  • Operation

Just wanted to talk a bit more about EV 8.0 SP3 from a SharePoint point of view.

With SP3 (which was released last week) the user experience is now much more seamless and.....well I could go on and write more about the various things we've done with EV Archiving for SharePoint but I'll leave this to Dave Scott our Group Product Manager for this product. He's recorded a short video which you should definately watch if you have any interest in archiving your SharePoint content.

We've just posted a video which presents an overview about Virtual Vault - what it is & what it looks like.

This will hopefully answer many of the questions that you might have about this feature, it's presented by Alex Brown (our Product Manager for EV Exchange)

Alex & I are in Berlin at Teched so if you're in town then pop over to our stand in the exhibition hall and we'll happily show you VV in the flesh.

Meanwhile  go check this out

EV 8.0 SP3 has landed

We’re pleased to announce that EV 8.0 SP3 was released on November 4th and can now be downloaded from FileConnect; the release documents are attached to this post.

In summary the key new functionality is:

1)      Virtual Vault – manage your archive as if it’s a PST. This now means your users can stay within the Outlook pane and browse their archive in a quick & familiar manner. This is a much anticipated feature which has undergone extensive testing both in house & with many beta customers. We are very excited about this new feature and believe it now offers the user a truly transparent UI experience, I can’t do justice to this feature in a quick post like this one so expect further follow up in the next week or so.

2)      SharePoint –  some significant enhancements to the user experience & archiving...

Over the last couple of years, we have seen a high uptake of Enterprise Vault File System Archiving (FSA) amongst our install base. However, we have not been able to offer support for customers where Apple Mac systems need to access the archived files. That is, until now. I’m excited to detail our support for FSA and Mac systems through our partnership with Group Logic.

First of all some background to why we have not been able to support Mac systems as clients for FSA. When we create placeholders we set the CIFS ‘O’ Offline attribute. A Windows client knows to treat this file differently to non-archived files. Indeed, on seeing the ‘O’ attribute set, Windows will change the icon of the file so that you have a visual indicator that this is a pointer to the file which is now “somewhere else”. (On Windows  XP you will see a black clock symbol in the bottom left of the file icon. With Vista and Windows 7 you will see an ‘X...

We are pleased to announce that Enterprise Vault 8.0 SP2 is now available for download via the FileConnect portal.

This is a departure from how we have previously made service pack releases available and has been done partly to provide you with a single place where you can download your software and partly for logistical reasons since we now ship the release as an ISO file which is about 1.4GB and is more easily managed using the FileConnect portal. If you do have trouble accessing the portal then you should in the first instance contact our Customer Care who will be able to assist you.

This release highlights are as follows

  • EV Entourage client
  • EV Mobile Search
  • Domino Retention Folders CLI
  • New DA reports
  • EVSVR Repair
  • Archive draft & future calendar items
  • Support for SQL2008

I've attached the release notes to this post so you can read all the detail about SP2

We recently published a guide about how to download the EV installation software and license keys which should hopefully answer all the questions you might have about obtaining license keys & installation media. This also includes how to obtain service packs for current & previous releases.
