This year, I made it my New Year's resolution to adopt social media and all that it is.

Time is, of course, always the enemy. This endeavor has taken some discipline, but it’s also given me clarity of purpose and reminded me of my passion for learning.

So, there’s no turning back now; I am officially into the deep end of the pool.

And with that in mind, I’d like to promote two articles I read this weekend, one from @SteveCase about the “sharing economy," and the other from Symantec’s new CIO @stephengillett about the “circular economy”.

As I read these two (distinct) pieces, it occurred to me that they might represent a rather elegant evolution.

The “sharing economy” – which emphasizes sharing of assets over outright ownership of assets in order to reduce waste – is...

I release regular updates to some of my downloads, article or blog posts (depending on the content or my mood) as this is much easier to keep track of for users and myself.

However there is a certain delay between updating content on connect (on and when the content is available to non-members of the community.

So in case you are not yet a member of Connect and wonder why I keep push blog post that annonce new version and you can't find them - then the answer is sign-in, or sign-up, and you'll go the latest and greatest as soon as it hits Connect :D

If they ever put the federal technology sector in charge of the Oscars, it’s likely to bear some resemblance to the first annual FedScoop 50 Awards, which was held with great success on November 28th at the Hay Adams Hotel in Washington, D.C.

On a glamorous night, with 150+ federal technology leaders on-hand (including attendees from the White House, Department of Defense, and numerous civilian agencies), FedScoop honored 50 of the federal IT community’s “brightest minds and innovators of 2012.”

Among them, our own Gigi Schumm received the prestigious Industry Leadership Award for her ongoing commitment to supporting the federal government through faster knowledge sharing, deeper thought leadership, and an unprecedented level of public/private cooperation.

Gigi stood in great company Wednesday night, with fellow award-winners...

Hello ISPs, are you listening?

Christos Ventouris, CISA, CISM, CISSP, and Technology Manager for Symantec, wants his ISP to provide the same security for the devices he uses at home as the ones he uses at work. It’s BYOD in reverse.

My life is governed by Internet enabled devices. I have two laptops, one tablet, one desktop, a smartphone and two recently acquired Internet connected TVs. These seven devices dominate my day—whether it’s for work or entertainment.

Then there are the devices my family uses: two laptops for the children, plus a smartphone and a tablet for my wife. That number is set to grow as more devices dominate the Ventouris household. Still, working for Symantec has its advantages, as it means I can work on the Web without worry, knowing the Symantec network has the appropriate security measures to safeguard my data. However, when I’m at home, I jump into CISO mode: checking the home network...

Symantec: A perfect place to enjoy the Work !!

I completed my MTech-IT from IIT Kharagpur, in May 2012. I got placed on 8 December 2011, and received offer letter after a month. Symantec gave me the flexibility of choosing the Joining date. I joined the Symantec on 25-June-2012. The recruitement process was very well organised and I enjoyed both technical and HR interviews.

Today is my 68th day at Symantec and and I am proud to be a member of the family. Each and every person here is very helpfull and appreciates your strengths as well as understands your weaknesses. There are lot of opportunities to learn the technologies and boost the mind to think creatively. Innovation is the key to success and not only thinking about innovation but how the innovation can make our lives better and better, is a real challenge !!!

Symantec: I am loving it !!!

How Secure is Your Cloud Infrastructure?

Alex Peters, CISSP and Manager in the Technology Sales Organisation at Symantec, argues that unless appropriate action is taken, the uncontrolled shift of corporate data into the cloud will have major repercussions for organisations everywhere.

One call, one credit card, one transaction. That’s all it takes now for someone in your company to engage with a cloud service provider (CSP) and launch a new cloud service. Everyone is at it—your engineering teams might be deploying Amazon Web Services right now to support a new R&D project, while the sales team are setting up a subscription to underpin a new sales initiative, or field service reps are using a new private cloud app for case management.

Great news, you might be thinking, and the ideal response to these recessionary times: here we have an innovative path to improving business agility, increasing...

Recently, public sector cloud adoption took another leap forward as the Department of Defense released its four-step strategy for the phased implementation of a DOD Enterprise Cloud Environment.

Having studied the plan, we can attest to the critical importance of the effort. The anticipated gains in cost efficiency (moving from a CapEx model to an OpEx model), operational efficiency, and resource optimization will be felt -- as DOD Chief Information Officer Teri Takai puts it -- “from the continental United States to the warfighter at the tactical edge.”

However, we should note that this is just the first step.

Data center consolidation, as positioned in the DOD plan, will be the major catalyst for driving the DOD cloud environment forward and provide the foundation for further cloud-based innovations that could have an even greater direct impact on the American warfighter.

For instance, DOD’s shared services model – made possible...

A recent Nielsen® study shows that smartphone  usage in teenagers alone has nearly tripled over the last two years.  The article quotes “In the teen study, Google's® Android™ operating system led the way with 36 percent of the teen smart-phone market owning Android-based phones, according to ComScore™.  Apple® iPhones followed with 29 percent, and RIM®’s BlackBerry™ phones were third, with 23.8 percent.”  The core benefits of Android – open, free and downloadable apps from many resources – also attract countless mobile malware authors to proliferate malware via apps that superficially seem harmless.

Symantec, synonymous to Security, offers solutions that help address and overcome the growing vulnerability of your family, children, data and devices....
