We've completed the work to merge the existing Storage Management and Clustering & Replication communities into a single community area. Since Connect launched last March, a good number of the storage posts and content have spanned the two communities. We realize that this means that many of you have been tracking content from both areas, and hope that this improvement will make it easier and faster for you to find and share information about Storage and High Availability products.

So what's new?  A Storage & Clustering community that includes Storage Foundation, Storage Foundation for Windows, Cluster Server, Cluster Server One, CommandCentral, FileStore, Volume Replicator, and SFHA Management Tool product information, all in one community. How will this help you? You won't see duplicated content between the two communities. You won't have to go to two communities to view product forums. We will have technical expertise regarding Storage and High...

Good morning all,

Finally was able to get away and login and start a blog.

Our meeting to this point have been very informative and we get a lot of feed back from the group. But now going forward that we have the blog up and running maybe we can keep in touch better and be able to bounce questions off of each other for best practices and also just let others know what we are doing in our own Data Centers.

Merry Christmas to all have a safe holiday season and look forward to seeing you in 2010.

God Bless,
Ed

Starting with the April 2009 issue, we began publishing each issue of CIO Digest to the Amazon Kindle. Readers want to consume content in a variety of different formats, and the increasingly popularity of the Amazon Kindle prompted us to begin making each issue available on it.

The July issue has some really interesting articles, including an exclusive interview with Steve Vollmer, the VP of IT and CTO at Las Vegas Sand Corporation, features on ways to optimize storage investments and strategies on weathering the 2009 economic climate, and much more. Click here to access...

Hi,

I have Veritas Storage Foundation HA/DR with VVR option. I did all the installation, configuration, setup and replication when both main site servers and DR site server were located in one location with 100 Mb/s bandwidth.

Before moving the DR server to remote location, We decided to simulate the environment and changed the bandwidth into the real available bandwidth that will be in future (2 Mb/s).

There is no more than 3 GB daily changes at main site and we had no problem before applying (End of Day) patch that makes 1 GB changes in less than 5 minutes which caused the Veritas replicated volumes to hang despite the replication mode is Asynchcronous. When applying the same patch with 100 Mb/s bandwith we had no problem.

Veritas Storage Foundation version is 5 MP2 and the operating system is Linux RHEL 4 x64.

Regards,

Abdallah Alsaleh

Imagine a storage strategy that could make storing data more flexible and efficient while reducing storage costs. With an increasing amount of data to manage, accommodating growth and controlling costs becomes virtually impossible without the knowledge of a trusted partner and a powerful set of tools. Randy Cochran, vice president of NAM channel sales provides four innovative technology practices that will drive immediate return on existing investments or ROY (return on yesterday):

1. Identifying unused capacity to improve storage utilization, decrease power and cooling costs, and reduce floor space and maintenance.

2. Using thin provisioning to reduce storage set aside for applications by allocating storage as needed and discovering what data the server and applications are actually using.

3. Avoiding redundant data with data deduplication, a technology that divides individual chunks of data into smaller segments that can be placed in available disk space....

Symantec’s Healthcare Industry Solutions group recently hosted a roundtable on the storage drain EMRs and other medical images place on the IT infrastructure. It was a great discussion that included Gary Sevounts and Phil Goodwin of Symantec, Rob Horst and Matt Giblin of Mercy Health and myself as moderator.

We discussed the following topics: storage management, storage virtualization and the challenges hospitals and other medical facilities can overcome by implementing the right solutions that fit the needs of your healthcare organization.

I have included a podcast link to the full roundtable discussion here:

In conjunction with Symantec Tech Support, we've started publishing a list of the monthly Tech Support 'Top Technotes' in the Storage Forums area. This is a compilation of the technotes that were most accessed by customers during the prior month. The list covers Storage Foundation Unix/Linux (including Volume Manager and File System), Storage Foundation Windows, and Storage Foundation Manager. Here's the Top Storage Technote April 2009 list. Visit the Technical Support site for full technotes, documentation and product downloads.
